looks like the main bulk of land is owned by a defunct quarry operation. Looks like a money grab.

Flip side, why is thing going to be so big that it takes citizens property?

This is crap. It's a serious abuse of power. This isn't even about infrastructure or safety or greater public good. It's about a monument. Sorry, that isn't good enough, emotions aside.

Celebrate some people that would not let some hijackers force their will on some innocent people, by forcing your will on some people. Woo hoo, awesome!

The main problem I had was that, judging from the article, the government's attempt at negotiation wasn't even half-hearted. It seemed to me that they planned to use their ace-in-the-hole the whole time.

I got the same sense. They weren't willing to pay anything close to the actual value of the property, and were going to use this as a tool to just "get" it.

I just hope it's used as a memorial to the crew and passengers of Flight 93 and doesn't devolve into some PC monument to "diversity" and "understanding".

You are not wrong. Look at the wreckage of the plane, it is completely consistent with a missile strike.

I don't have a problem with it, and this is not the first nor the last time we have a feel good story fabricated out of a tragedy.

Imagine the settlements if the governement was open about what happened. Taking it down was the right thing to do, but in this litigous society, they had to make a good story up.

It is a good story and I have no doubt those people were going to fight back but it is something that had to be done.

For real. Diversity and understanding are horrific things.

in light of government stealing land for a monument via eminent domain, yes they are horrific.
It's tragic what happened to those people on that plane, but do you really think that loads of people are going to travel to some field in PA to look at the monument? Personally, I don't care what happens to that land either way. And there's NEVER anything wrong with diversity and understanding. I know it scares some of you Republicans, but it's a brave new world out there.

It's quite possible they did fight back. it'd be hard to get those family members who received phone calls from loved ones to make that up. They may well have fought back, AND the plane was shot down.
