Eric Ward, who has been committed to Oklahoma for nine months, quietly enrolled at Texas Tech without telling anyone.

When it was found out, this is what he had to say:

“I want a degree,” said Ward, who plans on majoring in criminal justice and sociology. “Football is not going to last forever.”

Oklahoma (boasts) a 46% graduation rate. (a conference worst)

It's not an unprecedented move, but there have got to be some shocked Sooner fans out there.

While I like the reasoning, it doesn't sound like he's getting away from the traditional athlete's curriculum of criminal justice and sociology. It also seems that if you have a conviction to graduate, you would have that conviction at any school. Perhaps there's more to the story.

It seems to me he probably did it behind a parent or guardians back, someone who had more love for Oklahoma than he obviously did and was pushing him into playing for the Sooners. I mean why else would he remain a commit then enroll somewhere else?

Smart decision by he kid, more kids should take his example but be a little bit more upfront about it perhaps.
