It has been discussed in the earlier thread I made about coaching, but Jimbo Fisher discussed the same thing I wrote then when he was announced as HC and appeared on Gameday.

One of THE dominant programs in the country is always in Florida. Miami had an absurd run (good doc called "The U" just came out on ESPN networks for those too young to remember CFB in the 80s) then FSU was incredible and now going from Danny W and an NC in 96 and then dipping down UF has been on top of the mountain for a few years. These years coincided with Miami and FSU being down and it was no coincidence. If FSU starts to do very well, it will hurt Florida.

Eddie Gran at UF would be a great deal worse for us than Eddie Gran at FSU. We will lose some recruits to Gran, but we do not have to play them 3-4 times over the course of their career, and they get 3-4 chances to humble UF and make it seem like a less attractive place to play.

FSU may end up with Elam, Joyner, Christian Jones and Jeff Luc. Many of them have ties to the FSU program, all are in state guys and we should not be shocked. The net loss of Christian Jones and Luc is terrible, but if having a walk on start at MLB, Lance Thompson and Ed Orgeron cannot get studs to come learn under Monte Kiffin, we have lots of problems that go way beyond FSU.

We need something now not in 2011, hopefully he will be our savior then, but this is now

Nick Reveiz and Savion Frazier will be fine at MLB for 2010. I understand the need to sign one, but we won't be sunk if Christian Jones goes with the Noles.

Michael Taylor should be ready to step up in 2011 with AJ providing depth. And of course, I'm sure there'll be some other guys in there with them.

Yes. I am excited about 2011 commits, but I want some guys in 2010 who can play better than the embarassment we suffered against Ole Miss.

I like Reveiz, but even if he comes back fully from his injury he will mentally be way past most of these recruits but physically he will not be in the building with a CJ Mosley, a Christian Jones.

Dude...recruiting is an all out war...UT will get their share of studs, that walk-on your speaking of is a pretty good player and a leader of the team.

Eddie Gran at FSU isn't all that bad, maybe he steals a few recruits that Florida would have normally got, that helps us.

There will always be hits and misses in recruiting...UT has a good shot at some LB in ths class, Josh Shirley being one of them.

I would rather have an average athlete like Nick, who is very smart and will have players lined up in the correct position and who will be a leader, than have a freak of an athlete who doesn't know the proper adjustments to make and is just getting his feet wet.

Yea but when the freak eventually learns the system and how to line up guys, the sky's the limit which unfortunately cannot be said about a guy like Reveiz. I'm a huge fan of NR and I think he's a good player but not elite. If you could put NR's mind in Jeff Luc's body, he would be the next Ray Lewis.

Gahlee, your statement is exactly why it is very rare for a true freshman to be MLB.

If anyone needs further proof they can rewatch the Ole Miss game.

That said, it means that AJ Johnson would be 2 years away from playing MLB for us if that is the position he winds up in. We need to shoot a freaking SOS and if CLT and CEO cannot bring in studs to play under Monte there is something seriously wrong.

Don't count out Lathers here. When he learns how to make the checks and knows what's going on he will be better than Reveiz and Frazier IMO. He's more physically gifted than both of those guys even though i do really like Reviez. Frazier might slide back to WLB next year unless Askew steps up.

Lathers just needs time but we don't even know his long term reliability b/c of his ailments. We need quality depth and we need it now

I agree, it is all out war...I'm glad that Gran left...I do not want anybody here that is not all VOL...we will get our recruits..it just takes time...the cupboard was left bare...Go VOLS!

Addition by subtraction. I don't by any means think Gran was a bad RBs coach but I think we need a better coach on STs. Additionally this makes Florida have to fight for every prospect they get instead of being able to cherry pick the best in state talent; this hurts us in the state also but not nearly as much as Florida, they will have to really work more in the future with FSU becoming a viable option for instate talent.

I thought Gran was fine on special teams. There's only so much you can do when you don't have a decent kicker. The return game was better than in '08. The coverage units were still bad, but losing Britton Colquitt really hurt there. I'm sure he'll do really well with FSU's special teams.
