"If that was a slump, then I guess it means I was on an 8.5 year hitting streak." - Peyton Manning

Love the quote from ESPN. "Somebody asked me if we were in a slump. I said 'I've been on an 8 1/2 year hitting streak.'" Well said. The media have a hard time accepting that he is one of the best that's ever played the game.

i think it is more about the media sensationalizing everything rather than them failing to accept him as on of the greats.

I don't think the media is tryin to target him or anything like that. he was throwing interceptions left and right. When someone that great falls just a little bit you've got to report it! if anything it's kind of an honor cause if it was any ole player they wouldn't have even cared

People always say "hang in there." and I went "I never was out there" I don't know where "there" is but I've always been in "there", I will always be in "there", wherever "there" is I've never left.

i remember the same media members who were saying favre should have retired after '08 also were all over his nuts in '09. they just jump all over and wear out today's story.

Yeah, media is just responding to incentives.

Did anybody see the Wall Street Journal article about Manning? It was awesome. The gist of it was that even when he's bad he's good. They showed that he had by far the highest QB rating of anybody to throw 10 INT's in a 3 game span (and Manning threw 11). The list had Unitas, Tarkenton, and other greats. Kind of funny. Even when he's bad he's good.

They fished him for a reaction, and failed to get a headline. Peyton is a professional under center and behind a mic.

Journalists will be journalists. Don't take it as a slight towards the guy.

Oh, incredibly good. He 'stunk' last week against Dallas... completed 75% of his passes. Just hit a bit of a funk.

You gathered all of that from the question?!?

It's been an on going discussion in the media about his sudden fall from grace or lack of production. Although not citing other sources for my interpretation of an "8 1/2 year hitting streak", this is my observation.

Amazing what happens when the Colts actually have a running game and the other team can't drop 10 men into coverage.

Thing is, they still didn't even really have a run game. Haha.

his interview last night was great..

Yeah, he had us in stitches.

"We don't do well in 3rd and loooong, can't keep getting into 3rd and looong."

"MVP? I don't know, Brady...Vick...gotta go with a QB!"

and of course the "8.5 year hitting streak."

But it was good enough. Like Manning said, if they're doing enough where he only has to throw 35 times a game then they probably are going to win.

Exactly. And without Manning. This team is winless.

True. Their success will be short-lived. Can't have him throw 50x a game and win.

They can just kinda fake having a run game. Do some draws, some stretch plays. Even if they don't work, one 14 yard run will open up the D enough for 3 quarters of peyton magic

dan patrick pointed out this morning that in the soundbite where he's talking about his 8.5 yr hitting streak he sounded very much like jimmy stewart. he really did. very timely imo.
