Great Serrano quote

Hopefully it has better results than a similar quote:

"The SEC doesn't have the Vols to kick around Any more"

I trust Serrano.....the two coaches are not comparable.

This.

One is highly respected in his profession on the HS, collegiate and professional level. He has assistant coached teams that played for it all at UT along with other schools that included a team that won it all. He has head coached numerous teams that played for it all before returning to the hill to do it as our HC.

The other watched his Dad win it all, plays the suck up good ole boy game to get assistant jobs in the pros, and taught his team how to take a shower and watch for a Nazi general when he got his opportunity as HC.

As Derek Dooley would say...
"There's a nice mood on our team right now"....

Why do we have to continually be reminded of the previous football coach? We need to look forward and be ready for the coming resurgence in our athletic programs. Spring sports other than track should be very good this year which is a good start.

I would not mind seeing Todd Helton or Phil Garner come back to UT as possible assistant coaches in the future.

Asst coaches? Phil Garner was a MLB manager and you think he will be an asst college coach?

I don't see either one of those guys being content with spending their summers in Atlanta watching 17-18 yr olds playing in tournaments and trying to talk them into coming to UT.

I guess you are one of those who are looking forward to hiring Peyton Manning as the QB coach/offensive coordinator for UT's football team.

If Serranno can't win here, I don't think anyone will ever win here again.

Why would UT have a tough time winning at baseball? I'm an LSU fan, but always had a soft spot for Tenn as I grew up in Chattanooga.

Anyways, UT has decent facilities (not as important in baseball as football), it's a public school (helps to have cheaper tuition since baseball only has 11.7 schollies), and Tennessee has decent in-state talent (much better baseball talent than football talent in state) and is close enough to GA, OH, SC, and NC to recruit good out of state talent.

The main competition in-state is Vandy. If Tenn can show they can win, they'll easily win the recruiting battles because many players would much rather afford the Tennessee tuition than the Vandy tuititon. Tennessee has a lottery scholarship that can help with some players which means those schollies can be spent on out of state players. That's an advantage that programs like Bama, Auburn, Ole Miss, Miss State, Vandy (due to high tuition) and Missouri don't have.

Just because Serrano doesn't win here, doesn't mean nobody can win here. Delmonico won here and he was kinda lazy.

Vandy has a recent record of kids getting full rides based on the general rules of the school toward "underpriveleged" kids. This is why the squad has improved with a great deal of kids who don't come from affluent backgrounds. In this way, Vandy has a significant advantage over UT in recruiting. This is also one of the reasons that several schools like Vandy have had recent surges of success (Tulane, Rice, Stanford, etc)

Anyway, I do feel Serrano is likely the best true coach in the conference based on his past track record alone.

He inherited a program that the prior coach ran into the ground then spit on and it was going to take time. Starting from scratch at Irvine was likely easier than what Serrano got at UT.
