We were at Stokely that night too. "When Johnny comes marching home again ...."After discharge 5/74, I entered the ending of the Battle era. And watched all of the Artful Dodger games at home. Sorry, failing memory but was at Stokley when Johnny announced his "Blood ran Deep Orange!" We were sure a Natty was coming our way. After all- He just won it at Pitt! Took us till '98 and Johnny was back at Pitt I think. Has been a great ride folks!
Knoxville is known for their steamed sandwiches.Do they have Slaw burgers?

Some of the homeless guys on Cumberland were decent people that had mental disabilities. And some were real dirtbags. I befriended one who seemed like he was really kind, soft spoken. I found out later from UTPD they had been called to the library to remove him because of suspicious behavior, and when they looked him up it turned out the guy was a convicted child rapist. We as college kids really had no clue how dangerous some of theses people were. The homeless guys nickname was "Squeegie" like what he would do to clean stores or bars windows for money or beer. His real name was Jack Crowley. An ex-lawyer who would sometimes go to "moot" court held in the Law school. When it got real cold, the cops would look for him to take him downtown for warmth.Such were the days in the early 70' s at the Last Lap.The Lap was next door to Englands Sound Studio that sold stereo equipment(amps,turntables,reel-to-reels).Those were the days!
I worked at Sam & Andy's for a few months in mid-70s; there I learned to cuss in Greek. Good times.Fond memories of the Tap Room, the Library, Sam & Andy's, and many other locations on the strip from 1987-1991. I have a child at UT now and the strip has a completely different look especially with the current construction. At least Gus' deli is still there.
Squeegie used to come to Mary Jane’s ice cream shop, which I managed. It was located on the side of England Sound. We would give him ice cream in lieu of money after we found out he was buying booze with the cash we gave him. He would wash our windows, take out trash. He could be really funny. Hungover or strung out he got ugly.
