I was in junior high during those years. I used to stay up late and watch the home game replays. They had the games with John Ward’s call. They were great. In addition, Tennessee had Michael Jackson and Johnny Darden who were great players. Ward was fantastic on the broadcasts. Ward may have been better doing basketball than football.
The SEC was loaded in those days. Alabama, Vanderbilt, Kentucky and LSU had great teams. The F Troop at Vandy with Roy Skinner as coach. Ky won a national title. LSU with Dale Brown coaching and Alabama had CM Newton as coach. A great coach. The Tide had big Leon Douglas. Florida always sucked, but they had a cracker box gym and were hard to beat down there.
Yep, TR Dunn. Wasn't Dunn, Douglas, and King all on the same Bama team? The year Ernie and Bernie's team won the SEC, we lost a nail biter in Tuscaloosa. Something like 77-76........
TN swept Bama in 1977. Douglas had already graduated. All 3 were on the 1976 team which split with TN. Bama won the SEC in 1976 and TN was 2nd.
