I was watching 60 minutes last week as I am often wont to do.

They interviewed Aerosmith, and the reporter stated that they were the greatest American rock band. I disagreed, I felt the Allman Brothers were better.

What are your thoughts?

Even though the Allman's would only probably crack my personal top ten (maybe top five), I'd definitely have them ahead of Aerosmith. However, I'm sure they can make this claim off of album sales alone. I'm pretty sure they've sold more albums than any American, non-solo artist to date.

Allman Brothers (with Duane) would be my representative as well.

I wish I could say Chicago. But they changed their styles so much.

I love 25 or 6 to 4 so much. Chicago does make my top 50.

Aerosmith is a band for girls.

Here's a couple that should be thrown into the mix but aren't the first names you would think of.

Beach Boys
Ramones
Talking Heads
R.E.M.
Pixies

The Eagles have way more than Aerosmith.

Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band. Would've said Elvis but he's isn't technically a band.

Allman Bro.s is a strong pick - def ahead of Aerosmith

Hendrix has powerful impact but was short-lived (same for Nirvana)
Beach Boys
Eagles - even though I f'n hate the Eagles
Talking Heads were pretty influential
Springsteen has a claim
I like the Ramones and Pixies as game changers

That man recorded material for well over a decade before he went tits up... he only struck record deals and prestigious venues in the last third/fourth of it.

Hunt around for some Jimi James and the Blue Flames (as well as his recordings with Isley Brothers, Don Coveat, and Little Richard) vinyls on the net... it's worth the time/effort/money. Seems like he only hit it big because he started dropping LSD and burning guitars on stage.

Check out the most recent anthology he released... "West Coast Seattle Boy" ... some of those old school collabs are on there.
