win a world heavyweight title in a major promotion?

For me, it's Scott Hall. He was big, he was strong, he was fantastic in the ring, and could cut a great promo. He held IC, US, TV, and Tag Titles...even won WCW's 60-man battle royal ppv, World War 3. When he was sober, he was outstanding...it'll always bother me that he never held a world title.

Bruiser Brody, Curt Henning and Ted Dibiase were the other guys I gave the most serious consideration to.

I consider the NWA a major promotion, so that eliminated Barry Windham from the discussion.

Wrestling fans, your thoughts?

I consider the AWA a major promotion, so Hennig is out. DiBiase is on my short list. Arn Anderson is certainly a contender. Dick Slater probably should have held the NWA title at some point.

Don Muraco, Greg Valentine, and Jimmy Snuka are also worthy competitors who never held the world title.

Scott Hall was amazing, especially before he REALLY lost it to the alcohol and drugs. Razor Ramon was one of my first wrestling obsessions. Hall was a good heavyweight, but always seemed to be a secondary guy.

I thought about that with Henning, but decided not to count it because the AWA had lost so much steam in the late 80s....but, there's really no arguing that the AWA was a major promotion.

i consider holiding the tag team belts equal to holding a world heavyweight belt. moreso in the past than today, where the tag team pool is by far more watered down though.

I don't agree with that.

There are plenty of great tag champs that would have been pathetic world heavyweight champs...legendary tag wrestlers like Ricky Morton, Robert Gibson, Bobby Eaton, Hawk and Animal, Buh-Buh Ray and D-Von Dudley, Rick Steiner and Michael Hayes couldn't cut it as the #1 singles competitor in a big promotion.

Michael Hayes is in a totally different league than the rest of those guys. He was a solid, credible contender for the AWA title when Rick Martel held it and held the US Title at one point.

tag champ is the pinacle of a tag team's career. heavyweight champ is the pinacle of an idividuals career. both are equally respective honors in my opinion. well, like i said before, moreso in the past than in the present.

Which is why SO many tag teams split up and BOTH of the members become great singles guys.

"uh, I'll take sarcasm for 100, alex."

best example: The Road Warriors. at one point, Animal was out with an injury and Hawk got a bunch of matches with Flair. that was the highlight of his singles career, unless you count falling off the TitanTron (God rest his soul)

My pick for best to never win "the belt"? Owen Hart.

I also think that if Pillman hadnt been in his car accident, he would have been a bigger star than Shawn Michaels.

I watched the WWF doc on him, and he had the "IT" factor.
