Yeah... most Blazer fans lurk on a board called BlazerTalk. You can reach it by just going to www.blazertalk.com. BlazerTalk is, by far, our most popular forum. It's connected with the NCAAbbs, but the SEC board there is not very active.

Welcome Blazer85. What kind of team will you guys field this year?

Best in school history. But since our football program is just 10 years old, we'll have to wait and see how good that is :D Looking to win CUSA this year.

Well hopefully we'll make it a good game at the very least. I know you guys dont like to think about the possibility, but when WAS the last time UT lost their home opener?

I believe the last time we lost a home opener was our 31-0 disaster against Florida in 1994.

What kind of QB is Hackney? Is he a scrambler or pocket passer? I was looking at his stats from last year and they look pretty good. I heard that Pat Sullivan said Hackney was the best QB he has coached, is that what I hearing?

That's correct. He has an amazing arm and pretty amazing accuracy as well. He's definitely more of a pocket passer, but when necessary he can scramble. Having said that, it's not his speed that's dangerous, but we've seen him deliver some vicious hits on some blocks and when he's scrambling out of the pocket.

For his career, he has about 7,000 yards and 47 TDs. His only full year was last year (his junior year). Both his freshmen and sophomore years his season was cut in half by injuries. He's was a highly touted QB coming out of Atlanta and was recruited by MANY top BCS schools, but he tore his ACL in his senior season I believe, and naturally, many schools backed off... except UAB. If you guys have never seen the guy play, you'll be pretty impressed I would think.

It's really a shame... the guy is so good sometimes and UAB annihilated some teams so bad last year that they took him out of games. There's no telling what kind of numbers he could have put up if they let him play full games and if he had been healthy his freshman and sophomore years. Against TCU, he threw 5 TD passes in the first half... consequently, he didnt play hardly any of the 2nd half. In the Baylor game, we were up by about 30-40 points in the 3rd quarter when he was taken out never to see further action in the game. Part of that is to not run up the score any further, but also to prevent the chance of any injury.

I, unfortunately, will not be able to make the trip up. Should be a couple thousand UAB fans there. I'll be watching from home though :D

Welcome Blazer85.

After reading the thread so far, and after looking at the stats, Hackney is a good quarterback. He as solid numbers. 3070 yards passing, only 8 ints in 358 attempts. It's gonna be neat to see what he can do this season.

I usually had to pull against you guys, but since Cincinnati is in the big east, good luck to ya!

Even though you guys got beat pretty bad by Hawaii, it was still a fun game to watch. Chang and Hackney are two of my favorite QB's to watch.

Well... two things about the Hawaii game. It was a complete home game for Hawaii. And the kind of heat that was going on in Hawaii then was far different than even Alabama. I think alot of our guys had to get IVs and such. Ok... so a third thing, our secondary was AWFUL-- particularly towards the end of the year. Probably our best person in our secondary was seriously injured about 2/3rds of the way through the season. Hopefully our defense will be much improved this year, but I dont expect it to be back to our defensive prowess of a few years ago.

Hawaii had home field advantage, but I don't think it makes that big of a difference... I've been there many many times, and their fanbase is not really that big so the home field advantage was pretty minimal. Plus, as far as heat goes, I've experienced both the heat of Hawaii and the south, and the south is much worse than that in Hawaii.

Southern heat is much worse I agree, but it had been probably 2-3 months since temperatures had been near what it was in Hawaii.

When I went to Hawaii, just dealing with the time change drove me nuts.

Welcome Blazer85. I too am a Blazer fan (they provide my paycheck!).

Do you know the "Greenhouse" gang? I know a few of them (Doyle in particular).
