If We're gonna write threads about blaming one person for the game my vote is Greg Adkins, the offensive line coach. It isn't like he was ambushed, he had a full week to prepare knowing CPF is too busy to share his alleged experstise on the O line....he knew coach Cut was not only running the offense but had his own project in Ainge's mechanics and confidence. He knew we had 1 real vet on the line and the rest while some playing time was technically true, they were a collection of newbies. They appeared physically unable to deal with the Gators front 7 but worse they were mentally baffled on blocking schemes as well. When your a Vol back and you take the hand off looking at a squad photo of Gator backfield penetration(which is exactly what I said would happen in another thread, and had I the puter prowess most of you all have I'd make my point better here by putting that quote here),No one person should accept the blame more than that person titled to oversee the physical and mental pre game preparedness than Greg Adkins/offensive line coach. Ainge in my opinion carried this team to a near victory on his shoulders despite the fact the oline at best slowed down a pass rush set up to attack Ainge strategically. The gators disrupted the timing in the backfield on both run and pass plays with penetration as I said we should have done to them, and that is in my opinion is the storyline of this game, and who owes the team and the fans an apology.

I think that some blame goes to the coaches. Are people still willing to give CPF a pass for not being more involved with coaching the OL? After turning the entire offense over to Cut, the defense to Chief, and the special teams responsibilities to all coaches doesn't he have time to spend with the OL?

Plenty of blame to go around. Gators weren't going to lay down and put up fight. It was the team who made the last mistake who lost.

For the most part I agree you win and lose as a team, when a tackle misses a block, when a receiver drops a pass, when a coach misses an opportunity...the whole team got beat. But in response to some of our Volnationers who want to lay blame on 1 person, I named the 1 person in whom I feel deserves the lions share.

Adkins has gotten off light for a long time now. Just like Larry Slade. The blame has to be given to everyone. We all talked high and mighty about David Cutcliffe in the 1st two games, but his playcalling went way south Saturday. I almost blame him more than anyone else for that loss just because of what he was calling. Sometimes you don't have to be able to run to win, ask Florida St. It helps and you'll eventually lose, but we were in total control of that game until they decided to run it on first down in every possession of the 2nd half just about. And then on 2nd down on 3-4 straight. That's just stupid and asking to lose.

The bottom line is that we didn't play to win, we payed not to lose after we got up 10.

Yeah, I know, but I was responding to Nationofvols saying Adkins had been getting off lightly for a long time. Not really sure what he means since all he coached before was Tight Ends.

and we all know how productive the TE's have been....and i know we had Jason witten, but that was the exception, not the rule.

and it still bugs me we have/had a TE coach, but no ST coach? especially considering how little we've used the TE in our offense other than extra blockers....

i have to agree about Adkins and Slade....for my money, i liked Mike Berry's O lines.

I though I'd read that Fulmer had been getting involved with the O-line some this year. I saw a video of him taking snaps from the O-line and he was watching the way they got off the snap and whatnot. I think there are some practive videos showing this type thing on utsports.com.

What are the personnel changes that are supposed to be made with regard to the starting lineup against Marshall? Is McNeil getting the start at center?

I'd like to see some guys like McClendon and Chris Scott step up and dominate by meeting their potential coming out of high school.

Amen brother....... preach it. So what is Fulmer responsible for????? Oh right.... he is the CEO of the Football Program....

I guess he is responsible for OVERSIGHT. :zeitung_lesen:

That was my quote at home exactly. not just Ut/UF but any game under these new clock rules. Whoever is down, but can win and has the ball last and has to manage the new game clock...loses. Good game. great effort all things considered. Short end of stick with new clock management. Happened to LSU as well. And a much calmer and more experienced QB.

After watching the Georgia game I have to say that the offensive line has improved quite a bit. I saw close ups that showed the young center McNeil bending over the ball shouting at the guards and tackles and pointing out blocking schemes. The only time I recall Ainge getting hit was the safety delay blitzing and getting to him. They protected Ainge quite well and the run blocking, while it was'nt great was improved. Coach Adkins may have stepped up his efforts by the look of things. But who knows maybe coach Fulmer stepped in, as well as coach Cutcliffe. Whatever changed, the Offensive big boys are IMO playing with a sharper focus and stepped up aggression.

Pass protection was great, but IMO we've still got miles to go run blocking.

On the safety blitz Coker has to take that guy.

I was screaming the same thing too until I saw the back camera view and how well that safety hid until the last second. Still a missed block, but a great blitz also.
