In today's column, and he swears it is not an April Fool's Joke, Gregg Doyel is reporting that Buzz Peterson may leave Coastal Carolina to join Tubby Smith's staff at Kentucky.

That's an old rumor. It may be true and if so I say good luck to Buzz although I'm not sure how smart the move would be. If Tubby doesn't get his team back to premier status in the next 2 years, he may be looking for employment.

From Doyel's column - "Peterson is exactly the kind of recruiter Smith's staff lacks: a good one."

He was able to get kids to choose UT over Belmont.

THe column also says that Peterson would have followed Steve Alford to Indiana.

Funny rumor. Tubby seems to have a soft spot for failed SEC Coaches, with David Hobbs on the staff.

Kentucky's recruiting is somewhat suspect, but the greater issue is their inability to convert great recruits into solid players.

Good recruiter??? Way to go Buzz, you definitely did great in keeping Corey Brewer and Lee Humphrey in state.

Doesn't UK have 3 or 4 McDonald's All-American's on it's roster?

Apparently, noone but UT basketball players really understand how pitiful a coach Buzz Peterson is and was at UT.

I used to call Buzz, Option A. Because that is all he had, there was no B,C,D or E. As a result, coaches like Tubby, Odom etc outcoached him almost every night.

I guess because he is such a NICE guy is where the interest in him lies, I don't know.

Also, Buzz Peterson having coached at UT probably feels as though he DESERVES to be at a big time program like Kentucky or Indiana rather than at lowly Coastal Carolina. I also heard that he wanted out of Coastal because they promised him a new arena and that fell through.

Maybe everyone is just impressed that Buzz roomed with MJ and as legend has it taught Michael how to golf. Sounds like good enough criteria to coach D1 basketball...
