It seems like it's a forgone conclusion that the staff is going to oversign & IIRC we can oversign to 29? If so who are we going to greyshirt or send to Prep or JUCO?

I just dont see anyone on our current commit list or that we are recruiting that will be willing to greyshirt or might have trouble getting in with grades besides maybe Dunaway ( if we take him ), Mickey Johnson, & Antionio Richardson ( even though I think he will qualify )

No way Dooley has all these kids sign their LOI then tell them " well by the way your going to have to greyshirt, sorry ".

I understand we might lose 1 or 2 commitments before NSD because it usually always happens but Dooley is NOT going to ask Devrin Young, Tino Thomas, Brendan Downs, Allan Carson, or Mack Crowder to look around, NOT happening. ( I named those because I've noticed some posters name them as people we should drop )

The only area that I can see us bypassing on is the secondary. Seems to me that with Gordon, Teague, and Waggner at the corner positions, I would say pass on the JUCO CB's. Keep what we have and coach them up and let the Frosh come in and take over for them when needed. JMO

I think D. Young is one possibility to gray shirt.

Why? Do you think he will gray shirt because you are uninformed, and do not realize that he will play a position of huge need next year? Maybe because you are unaware that he is a player Dooley really wants?

The OP asked for who would be asked to gray shirt, go to prep school, or JUCO....so I gave my opinion.

Do you think he will gray shirt because you are uninformed, and do not realize that he will play a position of huge need next year?

LOL. I have nothing against DY at all. The kid has speed and that is something that this team needs but from what I have read he is being brought in mainly as a KR/PR specialist (I think he could also do well as an RB/Slot type player as well). We have other prospects coming in that could also fill the KR/PR role as well so we have some redundancy there. Again chief, it's just my opinion.

Maybe because you are unaware that he is a player Dooley really wants?

LOL. You're killing me with a question like that. Why would Dooley acctually offer a player he really didn't want when he is trying to build a good foundation with this recruiting class with filling positions of need? Why would he even waste his time?

Since you're so informed dude, why don't you enlighten us as to whom you would think gets asked to gray shirt?

Because we are so talented on punt returns? No way D. Young grey shirts. I guarantee he will be the starting punt returner on day 1.

There are no grey shirts in the list. also, Dooley is recruiting people he knows will qualify. He can't take too many risks in this class. There is no one in the list they want to look elsewhere.

I don't think DY would get asked to look around. Like I said before the kid has speed. If the staff is going to oversign then some will get asked gray shirted if everyone qualifies or they think someone will not qualify to get in. We can only sign 26.

Why is it a forgone conclusion that Young will be returning kicks? All the guys they put back there were HS returners as well, and it hasn't worked out. IIRC Eric Gordon was a stud return man at Hillsboro.

I just don't think all you Young lovers are correct in saying he jumps in and starts there. He will be a freshman, there will be a learning curve just like every other position, and Arnett & Dallas could just as easily step in that role as well. I just hope all you Young lovers aren't disappointed when he doesn't see the field from day 1 as a returner.

Did you guys miss Pat Martin's comment on FB yesterday? The one where he said he was going to have to prove something to all the Vol's fans that thought he was overrated? Wanna guess where he got that from? This board is where... Keep speculating and throwing out names to see what sticks and we may lose some of our less committed recruits or scare away some who are looking.

And before the first comment about "We don't want a guy that takes message board stuff seriously anyway" you better remember we are talking about 17-18 year olds that no matter their athletic prowess, still have very fragile egos and handle someone "dissing" them immaturely. Thank God, Pat Martin is one of the more mature recruits.

What happens, happens... let it rest until then.

I hope Pat realizes some of the bozos on here aren't even Vol fans even though they pretend to be.

JUST MY OPINION.

If we over sign, it will be with players that the staff KNOWS they have that can qualify and will not enter in August.

I don't think they ask anyone to gray shirt. They need bodies and participants next season not to sign someone who sits on sidelines.

On Pagan, no way he gray shirts if he signs. He needs to be in Tennessee's (or whomever he signs with) rehab program as soon as possible. Not January of 2012. A gray shirt would not be able to do that.

This class looks to be very promising in the future and I would prefer that noone sit out as well. We need all the talent we can get but how would they be able to oversign and not have someone sit out? We really can't back count anyone.
