I don't know. Hamas isn't very active in Turkey. I mean, it is the world's only Islamic republic. This was just a Turkish redneck of sorts, from the sound of it.

I do know that it's gaining popularity in Turkey. But c'mon, who just has an AK lying around the house. A shotgun is one thing, but I don't know many people that hunt with a Kalishnakov. Besides, well, Hamas etc.

Oh man, in that part of the world EVERYONE has that laying around. No joke. There are so many of those things in Asia and Africa.

I saw this story from an Australian website. They included this gem:

Turks are notorious for breaking out into gunshots to celebrate weddings and sports victories, a practice that has caused many deaths and which authorities have so far failed to curb.

IP is right, there are a ton of AKs around there.

The Cold War still has lasting ripples in some strange ways. One of the others is all the T-51 tanks you can find in different corners of the globe. For communists, the USSR sure sold a lot of stuff.

I honestly had to click on that link with trepidation. I have a colleague that is getting married in Turkey at some point close to now. He is not exactly the hand-eye coordinated or dexterous kind.....I honestly couldn't rule it out until I read a name. That's sad...and funny.
