He goes back to the pro game at this point. Very little seperates good from bad in the nfl. It's a game of inches. The talent is spread around the league pretty evenly because of salary cap ect. Its very hard to suceed. But college is different. One team can have far superior talent if youre able to recruit. Being that gruden is such a huge figure in the world of football he would undoubtly be able bring in elite talent, very much stacking the odds in his favor before ever taking the field. Plus fans are much more passionate and loyal to their college. He had a chance to come here and be a legend. I just don't see his odds being nearly as good in the nfl. If he can't realize this...we're probably better off without him. Oh well. Let's go find somebody we don't have to promise the state Capitol to in order to get.

Whats going to be really crazy is when Dec. 15th rolls around and alot of "Gruden Talk" picks up again. Not saying it will, but Hart's date for hiring a coach was Mid December. Gruden gets his last TB payment around the same time. Gruden's agent saying "we are not interested in the UT job" quieted the crowds if that was the goal.

"Oh no he didn't":eek:lol:

Not crazy to want to compete at the highest level. I think he'd probably rather coach/prepare than recruit and kiss ass.

This exactly! He can focus all attention on football. Not recruiting, and parents.

UT is behind: Bama, UF, LSU, UGA, aTm, & USCe (currently) in the SEC. At best UT is the 7th place program at this point and that's with Ark having a disaster of a year and getting stomped by Vandy.

You said it yourself the talent is more evenly spread in the pros than college. IMO it would be more difficult to turn around UT than to have Philly or San Diego make the playoffs.

Newsflash: He would be a moron not to. 2 to 3 more years and he qualifies for an NFL retirement. That right there is enough but add NO NCAA and Compliance Officers, no 20 hr rule, only has to deal with 2 people above him, easier to motivate players $$$$$. Shall I go on

An nfl pension is a couple hundred grand a year. Not a lot based on what he currently makes. I guarantee a pension means nothing to him. His legacy probably does. Point blank...he has a better chance a becoming a coaching legend by coaching college at this point in his career because his profile will allow him to get the very best recruits. I don't know how any could argue otherwise

He wouldn't be crazy at all, if he loves pro football like he says. In some ways, the NFL game is easier than college. Your competition is obviously stiffer, but you don't have to worry about NCAA rules, grades, recruiting, wacky offenses, etc.

How do you know this? You really think he's going to out recruit Bama, UF, & LSU year after year? Not going to happen.

Bill Walsh...BILL FREAKING WALSH went back to Stanford to coach after being in the booth and it didn't work out that great.

For crying out loud, Gruden wants us far less than we want him. If he doesn't want to coach UT, we don't want him to coach UT. Enough said about Gruden!

You're correct but there is a large portion of this fanbase that thinks "We're UT. We can get any coach we want. Every coach would kill to come to UT."

With every passing hour my attitude is becoming "Jon Gruden can kiss my @$$" Ill admit its 90% rejection anger. But its there nonetheless.

Walsh is a different person, different situation, and from a different era. Any analyst will tell u gruden would be a rockstar on the recruiting trail. I don't know he'd out recruit everybody every year but we'd be elite for sure. Hell the jackass we just fired brought in top 13-15 classes. in the nfl is team would have similar talent to every other team. It's just a fact, because of his profile he could take the field damn near every game in college with the most talent.

Is he going to have more talent than Bama, UF, UGA, and USCe when the teams take the field? How about when LSU and aTm are on the rotation?

I hate to tell you, but the players thought Kiffin was a rock star. Doesn't always translate to W's.

I just wish I was making 4.8M sitting in the booth one night a week watching a major NFL game...with enough money to scoff at the UT minions and their probable 6M offer.

Sit back, relax, and let things play out.

I wouldn't eliminate anyone at this point.

We'll have more talent than most...like I said. As long as Saban is at bama they're going to have players but I believe we could consistently out recruit out other rivals with somebody like gruden at the helm
