I found a quote on TOS and wonder if those of you who haven't seen the article or heard the story can guess who said it. The quote is about the proposed NCAA rule that would back up the earliest possible date for scholarship offers.

"You need to slow down the process so you can talk to the high school coaches and guidance counselor to get an evaluation of a young man's character, attitude and intelligence."

Sounds an awful lot like Dooley doesn't it... Especially that part abot evaluating character, attitude and intelligence. But it's not...

If you guessed Nick Saban you're correct...

You may not like him now, but I have a very good feeling about our coach. He is an intelligent guy, cut from a great cloth, and I think he will get us back to prominence in 2-4 years.

Common sense will get you alot of things. Good character, intelligence, working hard. This is what you should recruit everytime.

Couldn't agree more. That's why I think we will be fine in the long term. It may take a few years, but we will get there.

By comparison, and just out of curiosity, how long has Notre Dame been bad?

Depends on your definition of bad I guess. Really since 2007 when they went 3-9. Before that they had a 9-3 season in 2005 where they lost in the Fiesta Bowl to tOSU and a 10-2 season in 2006 where they lost to in the Sugar Bowl to LSU. They haven't won a bowl game in over a decade, but they have had some decent seasons.

They also had a 10-2 season in 2002 under Willingham. Maybe bad by ND standards, but far better than us during recent memory honestly.

Saban isn't creating the wheel here.

The majority of coaches do this during recruiting.
