I don’t think the SEC office wants to urinate off a lot of fan bases just for one year. So I think they will keep most team’s schedule for 2024 as similar to 2023 as they can with traditional rivalries.

My guess on the Vols 2024 opponents:
Vandy
Kentucky
Bama
Georgia
Florida
Arkansas
Texas
MSU

What’s your guess?

I think Sankey had a contingency for the potential of it staying at 8. I honestly think he wants it to be 9. I think you’re going to see a lot of the same rivalries we’ve always seen. I also think you’ll see aTm host Texas on Thanksgiving weekend.

I think we get
@ Vandy
Bama
Florida
@South Carolina
Host Texas
Kentucky
@arkansas
@ Auburn or Mississippi School

My guess is that they will keep all the normal "traditional rivalries" that happen in our conference, and then when Texas & Oklahoma become voting members, coinciding with re-negotiating a newer, fatter TV contract with ESPN, they vote to go to 9 conference games for the 2025 season in a 3-6-6 format.

We get to see the 2024 schedule when it's released on June 14th, so the wait won't be too long. That said, here's who I WANT for 2024 (in no particular order in alphabetical order):
Alabama -- TSIO!
Auburn -- long time, no see!
Florida -- TSIS?!?
Georgia -- you wanna be the best? you gotta beat the best!
Kentucky -- long time rival
Oklahoma -- we owe them one!
Ole Miss -- getcha popcorn ready (and your mustard, and your golf balls . . . )
Vanderbilt -- played later in the same year as "the deep south's oldest rivalry" between Georgia and Auburn -- we gotta play our in-state rival and little brother every year!

I'm keeping all the normal SEC-East opponents except SCAR and Mizzou, and replacing them with two teams we used to play practically every year before the 1992 divisional realignment: Auburn and Ole Miss.

I used to be all about keeping the rivals. But the way the landscape of college football overall has changed so has my mind. It sucks being in a conference and not feeling like some teams are even in the conference because we rarely play them. Im not about running from Bama or Georgia. But if the two top teams make Atlanta then your gonna play one of them eventually there. So for me rotate the 15 teams every two years and be done with it. Tradition has been tossed out the window for money anyways.

I hope and pray that you are right. The 3-6-6 model is the only one that's actually sensible.

I like the 3-6-6 model, but I am not expecting it to be adopted.
The reason they dismissed pods as a solution was because they thought the SEC would expand, again.
The reason the SEC is doing away with divisions is because they want to expand as teams are available ... and not have to slot the new team and a companion into one division or the other.
While 16 teams in 2024 does seem to be most people's take .... I am skeptical that the SEC will ONLY have 16 teams in 2024. (NO! I do not have inside information!!!)
From my cheap seat, all the decisions are being made based on throwing out the welcome mat in 2024.

Don't think there will be any effort, on anyone's part, to include Vols-UGa or Vols-Florida in 2024. Mainly because those will not remain annual meetings whether the SEC is at 8 or 9 conference games each year.

But I do think you're right that they'll go out of their way to put the intended 3 permanent rivals in the 2024 schedule. For everyone.

For us, that means we can definitely expect to see Bama, Vandy, and either Kentucky or USCe on the 2024 schedule. Almost for certain.

I just hope they're still looking for a way to preserve the Vols-Wildcats annual match.

Go Vols!

So........you want UF and Bama every year? Like it has been?

If there is a one permanent game every year, it has to be/ and better be Vandy.
Yes I want Bama and Florida every year. I don’t care about Vandy. I’d rather start a new tradition and play Texas every year.

We will have Alabama and Vandy. Only two guaranteed teams so far. It would be nice to keep Florida and Kentucky. I really want to keep Kentucky if possibly due to the history of that matchup.

Georgia maybe fun to keep as well. I don't care about Missouri and South Carolina though. Both can go away.

I agree with those who have Oklahoma on the schedule. I think we've got to be at the top of the list to play them after missing the entire series.

I do wonder how much they stick to what would be division scheduling with no divisions, though. I'll be surprised if they break from it by more than a game or two.

I do think Texas should be on the schedule next year...It only makes sense...UT vs UT could be bigtime ratings and a new and exciting rivalry can get started...Manning vs Nico in Neyland?!?...Yes please!!...That place would be insane!!

But that game you can almost bet would be in Austin.

For 2024 only:

Vandy Away, designated rivalry game
Bama Home
KY Home
Aub
Ark
MissST
SCAR or Mizzou
FL or GA
uTa or Ok

If SEC thinks it's too weak, then they will switch out Ark for UGA or LSU

1 Rival game:

Aub-Bama
FL-GA
TN-Vandy
Ark-Mizzou
uTa-OK
aTm-LSU
Ole Miss-MissSt
UK-SCAR

Attempts to preserve traditional rivalries or rekindle old SWC/B12 rivalries:

TN-Bama
TN-KY
KY-Vandy
Aub-GA
aTm-uTa
LSU-Ole Miss/MissSt/Ark/FL (pick at least 2)
Ark-uTa
GA-SCAR

After that it will be fill in schedule with balance and teams not played in a while.

For Tennessee, I would expect MissSt, Auburn and Ark to fit in that category. For balancing, Tennesse will get either Florida or Georgia and maybe LSU.

I expect all 14 existing SEC teams to play either OK or uTa in 24, if not both.

I do like the 3-6-6 model but since right now we are going to have 8 games a 3-6-6 model but since it is hard to pull something like that off with an 8 game schedule. What I don't want a schedule that is as bad as the SEC has been since 2012. Texas A&M has been in the SEC yet Tennessee has only only played them twice and one of those two games came about because of COVID.

My predictions for Tennessee's schedule is:
August 31-Chattanooga
September 7-North Carolina State @ Bank of America Stadium
September 14-Kent State

September 21-@ Texas- Honestly I think Tennessee will be Texas first SEC opponent and whoever Texas plays first in the SEC will almost certainly go to Austin
September 28-Florida
October 5-@ Mississippi State
October 12-Open Date U
October 19-Alabama
October 26-Kentucky
November 2-@ South Carolina
November 9-Yeet U a.k.a Nobody
November 16-@ Georgia
November 23-UTEP
November 30-@ Vanderbilt

For the most part I think it will be former SEC east opponents as well as Alabama. Also since Tennessee was scheduled to go to Starkville in 2024 I think Tennessee goes to Mississippi State. I could see Missouri being dropped so Tennessee can go to Austin. The one thing I am uncertain about is whether South Carolina happens or they elect for someone else. If they go with someone else I could see Auburn or Arkansas being the most likely candidates.

Just do the 7-1 conference games, 2 P5 games and 2 FCS games. 8 conference games is the only way to be fair, 4 home 4 away. Either way, we will get screwed next year for sure.
