The NRA should love this....

(A) The number of physicians in the U.S. is 700,000.

(B) Accidental deaths caused by Physicians pre year are 120,000.

© Accidental deaths per physician is 0.171.

Statistics courtesy of U.S. Dept. of Health Human Services.

Guns:
(A) The number of gun owners in the U.S. is 80,000,000. Yes, that is 80
million.

(B) The number of accidental gun deaths per year, all age groups is 1,500.

© The number of accidental deaths per gun owner is 0.000188.

Statistically, doctors are approximately 9,000 times more dangerous than
gun owners.

Remember, "Guns don't kill people, doctors do."

Fact: NOT EVERYONE HAS A GUN, BUT ALMOST EVERYONE HAS AT LEAST ONE DOCTOR.

Please alert your friends to this alarming threat. We must ban doctors before this gets completely out of hand.

Out of concern for the public at large, I have withheld the statistics on lawyers for the fear the shock would cause people to panic and seek medical attention

this line of thought falls in line with the Presidents view that malpractice insurance is way too damn high....something must be done!

Although I view what these lawyers are doing as immoral and wrong, recieving unnecessarilly large payments in malpractice suits, I think it has little if anything to do with the effect on medical insurance.

Was this a satire slamming the illogic of the NRA's high-emotion, low-brain campaigns, the performance of American Doctors, both, or just the quality of American political discourse in general?

One way or another, it's pretty damned funny.

I definitely know that if I was a doctor, I'd be all kinds of thrilled by the idea that my success or failure was comparable to killing somebody with a handgun or assault weapon on purpose or killing them by accident (since handguns and assault weapons, whose purpose is exclusive to kill people, are the only guns being contested).

Just as a cherry on top, too, there's the way that the author didn't just mock both the NRA & doctors by using a completely illogical comparison between medical & gun accidents, there's also the way that the fact that the vast majority of deaths due to "medical accidents" actually happen in hospitals and therefore aren't, as a matter of policy, ascribed to any particular doctor (the leading cause of death in America hospitals is due to "complications unrelated to the presenting condition").

Now THAT'S what you call multi-tasked comedy.

Then you don't understand the big picture.

To put it simply, frivalous lawsuit payouts increase malpractice insurance premiums which affect doctors. Those doctors must compensate for the cost of doing business by upping their charges. This then affects the insurance companies that charge YOU for premiums.
