He did. He used to work for CBS. He did CBS’s main NFL game each week (and their NCAA basketball and tournament games). He was with them from 1995-2011 until CBS Sports let him go over a contract dispute.

I agree, though: he’s a fantastic announcer and CBS made a huge mistake letting him go.

He really is. And I resent every CBS Sports game at all levels that I've had to watch since they let him go.

I am actually a big fan of his partner, Joel Klatt. I think he is better than Herby in his analysis of college football in general. He always has interesting takes in interviews.

I don’t think he did the main NFL game of the week for CBS. He always pretty low on the totem pole. Greg Gumbel and Jim Nantz have been the number one play by play guys since CBS took back NFL rights in ‘98.

That's exactly it. I want announcers to get excited when something exciting happens. But Gus loses his mind for every three yard run.

CBS uses guys (Lundquist/Nessler) that call golf. Would be a good SNL skit to have a screamer calling the Masters.
