Gus Malzahn stepping down from UCF

I feel like Jamey Chadwell would be the offensive vibe most UCF fans enjoy the most

Taking the OC job at FSU. What an odd move.

Not really that odd. He’s almost 60 and probably doesn’t want to put up with everything that goes along with being a head coach these days. Plus, he’d be on the hot seat to start next season, so this way he gets to go out on his own accord.

This. I am sure we will see more of this type of thing now that NIL and recruiting is even more insane and intense. Have input on players you want, coach them, and repeat.

Plus, he still must have a pile of Auburn money, so that’s not really an issue.

He has the same resume as Deboer - One national championship appearance. Let this be a lesson to people wanting to “upgrade” after Heupel.

If in 2019 you would have said that between the past 3 ucf coaches Scott Frost, Josh Heupel, or Gus one of those coaches would in 2024 be coaching his 2nd 10+ win season in the past 3 years and the others either fired or about to be don’t think anyone would have picked Heupel.

Except he didn’t call the plays
The 38-year-old, who handles play-calling duties for the Vols, had a key role in the program going from No. 102 in total offense (in 2020) to No. 7 in 2021 to No. 1 this year. The Broyles Award finalist is another prime candidate.”

"Our relationship was really good because there was no ego," said Golesh when he was hired at USF. "There was a complete trust in each other. And when he turned over the playcalling to me, I think for him it was a level of trust that he showed in me. I think I earned that trust."

"There's no time to talk in between plays," added Golesh. "So generally I would get, if it was good, like a 'hell yeah' or if it was bad, a "what are you doing'. But the relationship was awesome."

Even then, it was always a somewhat collaborative effort between Heupel, Golesh, offensive line coach Glen Elarbee, and Halzle.

its pretty clear he was very important to the system. we haven't seen the same type of playing calling keeping the opposing defense off balance. We have gotten very predictable, and most games there are whole parts of the field, or positions, we can't figure out how to use.
