Correct me if im wrong but I thought the ap game wouldn't count because of their classification. If thats so we would have to win 3:4 but im confident in our team and coach!

I see us winning all 4 games and finishing 8-4. Followed by a good bowl. Flame away...

Definitely possible.

My "floor" all along has been 6-6 and it still is. After beating SC, my expectations for 7-5 went up and that's what I am optimistic for now. I think we can at least split Mizz/AU and take care of business against vandy and uk.

Let's face it...we are not going to lose to UK. So to do less than 6-6 means losing to Vandy with Butch Jones coaching and in Neyland. It just ain't gonna happen!

7-5 is possible and excellent.

5-7 is inexcusable and disappointing.

6-6 is most likely and solid.

10-4 with a sec championship is still possible at least that is what i told brent brewer and jacquez smith. but it will require some big help. if we made it to the sec title game no way we lose twice to bama. but 9-4 should be the goal now regardless of the sec east race. to want to just be 6-6 is being content with sucking on the road the entire season and being complacent. neither of which meet the standards that are the university of Tennessee for football.

Then quit wasting your time. If you can't see any improvement under Butch, just quit. Apparently, you're on the breaking point of your way or the highway. The fan base will sustain without you. By the way, who did you expect to beat that we haven't? Win in the swamp with Peterman? You expect to beat Georgia as double digit underdog? You expect to beat Bama?

Looking back on the Florida and Georgia games and the way they played out, we should have won both. I'm not crying because we are most likely going to end up 6-6 because that's what I figured at the beginning of the season. It is frustrating though to think that we should realistically be 6-2 right now.

I am confused. Alabama crushed us, yet you think if by some miracle we were to win out, go to the SEC title game that we would beat Alabama? I don't understand your logic. I get that we would improve but don't forget so would Alabama. I am a Vfl and hope all that happens but I cannot see anyway possible that we can beat Alabama this year.

Agree. If Worley would have started the UF game, I think we would have won. We should have won the Georgia game and we were a few good plays from doing it. We should be 6-2, but I am not upset with where we are right now.

As I've said before, I'm sill in it. Never left it. Just not willing to accept what has been going on for the past 5-6 years and seems to be continuing. I've been a fan for the past 50 years, just ready for some positive results. I don't don't know what else to say for anyone accepting poor results at this time. We are long overdue to return to prominence.

Not meaning to be bashing but if you have been a fan for that length of that would put you in the generation where the term " delayed gratification" actually holds some meaning. You, as do all Vols fan, want the return to prominence now or sooner but being realistic, it ain't gonna happen , at least not this year. I think you're missing or overlooking a number of positives and these are what keeps me hopeful of said return in the near future

I just can't see 6-6 as a very good season. Sorry.

Considering the circumstances... unproven QBs, up to 10 walk-ons on the 70 man traveling squad, 23 freshmen playing mostly out of need not luxury, the losing culture/mentality ingrained from the Dooley years..... I'll see 6-6 and as a good season and a great progression towards some championship football to come in the next 2-3 yrs.

I think we can legitimately beat Mizzou. I believe Dobbs is gonna put on a show, like Shaw did in the 4th against the Tigers. ESPN is gonna be drooling over him by the end of the game.

I think Auburn will be really tough, even at home bc we struggle with that style of offense and they have shown that they can put up points. Plus, their defense is better than most.

I know ppl dont want to hear it but Vandy could give us a run as well. They aren't good all the time, but just like Vandy of years past, they find a way to play in one or two games a season and hang their hats on those performances. Plus, Vandy will come to play. James "Gaylord" Franklin will have them fired up for this game, especially with it being in Knoxville, trying to claim our state, but coming off a bye week, I think we win by two scores. Coach Jones is 11-4 off of bye weeks and the 4 he lost were by 3 or less pts. That plus our performance against SC off a bye suggests we will be ready for the final two games of the regular season.

Ky is a win. No doubt in my mind.

That puts us 7-5, and a lower tier bowl with all of the middle of the road SEC East teams. I'm ok with 8-5, that is a success in my eyes for a first year with a less than desired roster.

Next season, i expect the same or better. 2015, we need to be playing for the East and I believe we will be.

I would much rather be home during the Christmas Holiday watching bowl games and knowing that Tennessee is in one. Watching other SEC teams play in bowl games while UT sits at home really sucks. If we make a bowl game, I will be there.

We've played well at home, but not on the road. The Auburn and Vandy games are there for the taking, plus I feel we can beat Kentucky on the road. 7-5 is a real possibility. None of them are sure fire wins in this conference however.

I will be disappointed if UT cannot beat a Mizzou team that has less talent than they do.

Mizzou has experience but that should be somewhat mitigated by now due to the games this year for UT. They have a good system but I think we would all like to hope that UT does now as well and that Jones will know how to capitalize on his talent advantage.

Auburn has always been a concern for me. I think Mizzou has benefited from a schedule that just fell in place for them. I think Auburn may in fact be "that" good.

Two pathetic losers! Set the bar higher

I am curious as to how they are "pathetic losers"?

I personally find it pathetic that some people, such as yourself, call people names when they bring realism to the board.

SIAP, but I believe Vol-un-tear was referring to Kentucky and Vandy.

That being said, if I'm wrong, and he was calling the posters losers, then I completely agree with you, mcflurry. So tired of seeing Vol fans attack other Vol fans simply because they don't agree with their own views/opinions. It has caused me to take several different long vacations from these boards.

The road games were vs UF, Oregon, and Bama. That's not exactly a good sample set for saying how well this team can play on the road.... and especially at Mizzou. Faurot field is not an intimidating place for opponents to play.

UF was full strength pretty much when UT played them. Jones then spotted them the first half by starting Peterman. I believe UT's chances for a win there would have been very good with the strategy he employed vs UGA.

Personally, I disagree. I think Mizzou has a ton of talent, more so than UT at this point (though not by much). Their top 4 receivers are all 6'4" or taller, and very athletic (I believe one was the #1 WR in his class), and we all know they have two QB's who are very capable, to say the least. Regarding the experience comment, that's true, but you have to remember that even though we're 8 games into the season, our QB only has 2 quarters of experience. I have confidence in Dobbs, but don't be surprised if he makes some rookie mistakes. He's going to be facing a pretty nasty pass rush from Mizzou. The O-line and receivers need to step up and make sure they're on their A-game with blitz pick ups and hot routes.

Yep, the SC win was awesome and a win over Missouri or AU would be awesome too but these games will not break our season. A 6-6 season with a win over SC with the way our schedule has gotten much tougher would be a very good season, anything above that would be outstanding imo.

Well be prepared for outstanding then cuz with Dobbs we are going to be very good and will beat one of the two in Mizzou or Auburn. We may even win both games.

Do recruiting ratings and rankings mean anything at all?

I'm not talking about meaning "everything".... just anything. Wouldn't we say that they accurately predict that Bama is significantly more talented than UT at this point?

If you agree with that... then understand that the disparity between UT and Mizzou and Bama and UT are pretty similar.

How much handwringing has there been here about UT's "lack of talent"? UT's starters this Saturday will include 7 4* players on O with the remainder being 3*. On D, UT will start also start 7 4* players with 3 3* players and Sapp who was a 2* S coming out of HS.

Mizzou on O will start one OL who was a walk on, two 2* players, five 3* players, two 4* players, and one 5* player.

On D, Mizzou has a former walk on starting at CB, four 2* players, five 3* players, and one 4* player.

I am NOT a star gazer. I don't think "stars" are accurate down to the individual. But for Mizzou to be even close to equal to UT in talent... they would have had to have pulled off a miracle of finding THAT many underrated players.

If recruiting rankings mean anything at all then UT will field a significantly more talented team than Mizzou this Saturday on both sides of the ball... and behind the starters.

This game is UT's talent and coaching against Mizzou's well coached system.
