Good Lord. I said I disagreed with one comment about talent, and you get all defensive and start trying to find something wrong with everything else I said.
Sorry. It simply gets tiring answering this same misconception/myth. You could be a little less sensitive as well. I am engaging you and talking to you. I did not "try to find something wrong with everything else" you said.
You took my intent entirely wrong.
Mizzou has some talented players but their overall talent is closer to UK than Bama. They have less raw talent than UT.
I prefer to watch the games and see the players in action to judge talent, rather than look at recruiting rankings, and asterisks grouped together in 2's-5's. You can claim to not be a star gazer all you want, but what you said just prior to that would suggest otherwise. To each his own.
No. The recruiting rankings have simply proven to be generally accurate.
My bad. Their top 3 wide receivers are 6'4" or taller. L'Damian Washington at 6'4", Marcus Lucas at 6'5", and Green-Beckham at 6'6". Forgive me for that grave error of saying 4 instead of 3. How dare I.
I never said it was a grave error but it is an error that matters when people are trying to turn a "good" team into a band of Goliaths.
"Somewhat of a disappointment" or not, he remains a very athletic threat that can score at any moment. Same with Washington.
You can believe what you like about DGB but the kid is struggling greatly with consistency. His production vs the SEC has been less than half of what it was against the scrubs they played OOC.
Washington is a big play WR but UT has played some that are better already this season.
Again, you can go by stats all you want, and then refer to passes as "lucky" when they don't back up the point you're trying to make, but I've watched Mauk play, and yes, he is very capable. He may not run a lot, but the threat is there and he has shown he can do it effectively with a 17 yard TD run against Florida, a 13 yard run against SC, and a key 6 yard 3rd down conversion against UGA on the first play he was in the game.
So he's done just a tad more running that Worley, right?
He hit 40% of his passes vs USCe and one of them was a busted coverage for a 96 yd TD pass... call that what you want.
But that's all besides the point. I didn't say he was a Heisman contender. I said he was capable. He is.
And I didn't say he was incapable... just that he wasn't a Heisman contender or as good as several QB's UT has faced.
As for your comment about Franklin...not sure what your point is there--I said nothing bad about him...at all.
My point is to have a conversation with you... concerning Mizzou's roster vs UT's. Franklin may be ready to play this Saturday though indications are they would rather not have him in.
Oh, and PARDON ME for suggesting that a true freshman quarterback, starting his first collegiate game ever, in the sec, on the road, in the middle of the season, when his only career experience is 2 quarters the prior week, might, just MIGHT make some rookie mistakes.
You are having a serious issue there. Did I say that Dobbs wasn't going to make mistakes or did you assume it because you had a bad overreaction?
Dude I absolutely love Dobbs as a QB. I thought he looked great against Alabama,
I like Dobbs. I DON'T think he was that great vs Bama. He was 5/12 vs their back ups. He made one nice run but made a bad read later on the option for no gain. He was also playing mostly against Bama's backups.
However I DO like that he maintained good composure, looked good throwing the ball, and seemed to have command. I think a week of preparation being "the guy" will do him a world of good. Playing at Mizzou is nothing like playing at Bama. Mizzou's D and roster as a whole is not in the same class as Bama, Oregon, or even UGA/UF when UT played them.
Just one example. If you go back and look, Bama DB's broke on several balls and played through UT WR's to break passes up by both Worley and Dobbs. Those weren't bad reads/passes or even bad routes. UT's WR's just weren't prepared to make those catches against elite athletes with elite coaching. They should have used their bodies to shield, caught with their hands, and come back to the ball. Against Mizzou... those are catches. Mizzou simply does not have those kinds of athletes across their secondary.
and I think he'll play great against Mizzou, but I also believe it's unreasonable to expect, based on 2 quarters of play, a freshman qb in his first ever start to not make some freshman mistakes. If you take issue with that...
I think he'll make less than most in similar situations due to intelligence. I base that off the J James interview the other day. He said he had the playbook down AND the progressions. Most Fr do not have a mastery of the playbook by this point much less the progressions in their route trees vs various coverages. More than half the battle is knowing where to throw early in the play or even before it. If reports are correct, Dobbs is going to be better than most new starters at doing that.
