I started the negative thread last night about 22-21 being half seasons pre February record and I thought maybe a more optimistic look was more appropriate this morning.

Half season is 16-4 in his regular season games beginning in February.

Imo This proves he is is very close to figuring things out as our coach.

I would like to see comments suggesting what's the difference in his coaching the first half(22-21) and the second half(16-4).

IMO half season in both years has finally decided that he needs to get out of the kids way and let them set the flow of games. He finally realizes that offense is a big part of the success of a team and let's them have some freedom in the second half of the season.

I am hoping he isn't so slow to learn that this year.

I think it takes him too long to settle on a consistent lineup and figure out what is working. His teams in his first two seasons played with a back against the wall mentality in February and beyond because of the longer than expected growing pains of November, December, and January.

The substitutions last night were erratic and not thought out IMO. I'm betting Martin is kicking himself looking at the box score and seeing the minutes column next to the names of Armani Moore's and Quinton Chievous. He'll really hate it when he sees each of them on film.

Good point.

His rotation has always been a mystery to me. Chevious hadn't even played in the 2 exibitions had he??

My posts were very negative last night too, but my frustration is the same as many of you. The talent on the court is not being utilized. We lost to a team we should have easily beat. They were missing one of their best players. We are a veteran team and we looked totally unprepared. Xavier may surprise me and turn out to be a great team, but I really do not think that will be the case.
I hope this was maybe first game on the road jitters, but I beginning to think this is a trend. CCM is a quality man, but this team tonight played with very little fire until it was too late.

Well Chris beat me to it. I think the biggest thing is he seems to use the OOC to "figure" out what he wants to do. Now Jarnell being in foul trouble all night probably didn't help, but still. You play guys like Moore and Davis big minutes in the exhibitions, and then are non existent over a guy who didn't play at all.

Here's my hope, this game was a true test. Instead of playing 5 crap teams first and heading to atlantis to see what we've really got now we know. I'm hoping Martin realizes now that Barton is the starter, Moore brings a lot more than Q, and that we have to do something to help Jarnell stay out of foul trouble.

People can b!tch about the offense all they want, but we were a 70% from the line appearance from scoring 70+. We put up over 40 points in the second half while missing a bunch of free throws, that's pace for 80+ for a game. I'm hoping playing this game will show our staff our weaknesses and strengths and they'll figure it out sooner rather than later.

Bto

You don't feel pace of play has changed toward the end of both seasons???

Would have to see numbers to back it up, but don't think so too much. I thought with Barton out there we looked much better, he played almost the whole second half and our offense was pretty good in the 2nd half.

I'm interested to see how we play the next 3 games, this needs to Barton at PG 30-35 minutes a game. The players feel more confident in him IMO, he plays great D, and he's not got the nerves like you can tell Thompson does.

The other factor is, February and beyond is SEC competition, which, in the last two seasons, probably has been softer than than the pre-February schedule.

Barton was a big bright spot last night. Our offense flowed better when he was in, his three point shot was as advertised, and his defense was better than I expected.

My impression is that if you do those numbers you will see a dramatic change in the overall pt totals of the second half games. I would like to see but don't have time to check it right now

No doubt Barton was good.

I just don't think Martin is a very good coach. I had high hopes for this year but after that show last night, I don't see it. How do you go out in the 1st game and play that poorly? We should have won by 20 pts over them. We do this every year, then catch fire toward the end of the season, then crash & burn in the tourneys.

Should have won by 20 yet Xavier was 3 point favorites.

Interesting.

Did the numbers:

In the bad half martin the total score average was 123. During the good half the average was 131.

Fwiw In the gambling world 8 pts on the total is a big difference

Bump.

Lol

Just proving that all my thoughts on half season havnt been negative.

I really thought he was going to get this team playing to its potential sooner.

Call him half season and insult him yet you believed he would get us playing to our potential sooner? Seems kinda two faced to me. I respect your opinion but you are just plain confusing to keep up with.
