Hamlin suffered lower back fracture

Why there isn't a SAFER barrier around every possible wall on the inside and outside of every track is beyond me. The drivers should refuse to race at any track that doesn't meet that standard.

I was watching ESPN this morning and they were interviewing Dr. Jerry Punch about it. Punch said a fracture like this could take weeks or even months to recover from. He also said it takes some people weeks before they could even start rehabing from an injury like this. I hope Hamlin doesn't miss any races. Lagano has already issued an apology for what he said after the race. He said he never wants anyone to get hurt.

Dr. Jerry Petty will not clear Denny Hamlin to race at Martinsville in two weeks. Most likely, Denny will need to miss around six weeks. He may need more time, he may need less time.

From JGRs Facebook page:

Joe Gibbs Racing driver Denny Hamlin was evaluated today by Dr. Jerry Petty of Carolina Neurosurgery & Spine Associates after suffering an L1 Compression Fracture during an accident on the final lap of Sunday’s NASCAR Sprint Cup Series Auto Club 400 at Auto Club Speedway.

Dr. Petty determined that Hamlin will not require surgery, but will need time to properly heal, which is estimated around six weeks time. Dr. Petty will make the determination when Hamlin will be able to return to racing this season.

No decision has been made on a replacement driver for Hamlin during his absence from the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series.

It's unfortunate for Denny and the JGR team. Hate to see Denny miss races. He's a very competitive driver. Hope he has a quick recovery even though he'll be out for weeks. Back problems aren't fun! Thoughts and prayers are with him and the family.

Hate this for Denny. I generally pull for all of the former JGR drivers, but I'm really starting to not like Logano.
