Americans grow happier as they age, surveys find. And a new Pew Research Center survey shows the tendency is holding up as the economy tanks.

Happiness is a complex thing. Past studies have found that happiness is partly inherited, that Republicans are happier than Democrats, and that old men tend to be happier than old women.

The survey, released this week, points out several disparities based on lifestyle, beliefs and political persuasion:

  • Republicans are happier than Democrats.
  • People who worship frequently are happier than those who don't.
  • The rich are happier than the poor.
  • Whites and Hispanics are happier than blacks.
  • Married people are happier than the unmarried.
  • Dog owners and cat owners rate the same.
  • Sunbelt residents are happier than everyone else.
About 45 percent of Republicans said they were very happy, compared with 30 percent of Democrats. Republicans have been happier in surveys going back to 1972, the Pew study notes.

The reason might seem obvious, since "Republicans tend to have more money than Democrats, and—as we've already discovered—people who have more money tend to be happier," the report states.

But even after adjusting for income, poor Republicans are happier than poor Democrats, and rich Republicans are happier than rich Democrats.

amazing how that works. they have their President, they have their Congress, but they're still angry and continue to blame their ire on GWB.

my guess is that it just plain sucks to be a lefty moonbat.

tell me, since you're obviously seeing things clearly, what is it about Imaginova that makes it "right wing" and dominated by republicans.

if you point to their link to Fox News as one of their media partners, I'm going to laugh in your face and point out the links to MSNBC, US News, USA Today and AOL.

Large influences from Asia and china as well.

The holding companies for Investment companies That are owed By Insurance companies and International banking and yes, big oil companies plus Microsoft,AOL Time Warner.Gannet news services,Rupert Murdock.

GE Capital has been given nearly 200 billion in taxpayer money, outside of the TARP program, and to date, no strings have been attached. Immelt is an economic adviser to Obama and recently appointed Tom Daschle to sit on the Board of Healthymagination, a 7 billion dollar alliance with Intel to produce a national health records database. GE's media outlets (MSNBC, NBC Universal, CNBC) are going to produce 5000 stories/year extolling the virtues of HealthyMagination and the inevitable socialized medicine program imagined by Tom Daschle in his recent book on the subject.

With our bickering at our lowly level of hell.I wonder how it plays out in the corporate board rooms,political halls of power and on an International basics.Everybody trying to get theirs......With the intent of keeping their "Sheep" in line!

Choices are limited in this world.Ultimately It's Choices not chosen by by the ones doing the choosing.But rather by the one doing the dictating as to policy and the Illusion of choice!
