I'm a day late on this, but yesterday was the 30th anniversary of The Empire Strikes Back

Happy 30th anniversary to truly one of the best movies of all time. Truly amazing and long-lasting, it is :)

30 years from now, we'll still be quoting from movies like "The Empire Strikes Back". "Avatar" however, will only be known for the amount of money it made in the box office.

give me one memorable quote from "Avatar" that stands the test of time like:

"No, Luke, I am your father."

"Laugh it up fuzzball."

"Do, or do not. There is no try."

Episodes I, II, and III notwithstanding, George Lucas created something that James Cameron will never be able to replicate, a universe that shaped the lives of an entire generation of kids. "Avatar" will never be known for anything other than it's box office take. Perhaps the innovative 3D tech will live on, but it's only a matter of time before something better comes along.

don't forget:

“I thought they smelled bad on the outside”

and several still popular but not as huge lines like:

"Join me, and together we can rule the galaxy as father and son."

“Never tell me the odds.”

"What's in there?" "Only what you take with you."

actually Solo-Leia's "I love you" "I know" scene's pretty powerful as well

My personal favorite, when somebody says something that is blatantly obvious:

"Chewie, take the professor into the back and plug him into the hyperdrive!"

Different side of the coin.

I look upon avatar for it's technological advancements in film. Historians of film called this the third great leap of technology. The other two being Sound and Color. While Star Wars is a great film, both with story and at the time technology. Avatar can claim the same and the tech will remain longer than that of Star Wars.

You didn't like Avatar because you saw it as a political Statement. Well guess what, so was Star Wars from someone like your's perspective. You go life deciding whether a film is good because of it's political nature if it doesn't line up with your views, you don't like it. You are incapable of finding anything out side this personal microcosm enjoyable.

I didn't like Avatar for the same reason I didn't like Aliens 3, the story sucked.

This.

Avatar to me has more to do with the SW Prequels than the Original Trilogy; meaning it was nice and pretty but the story sucked.
