For the life of me, I don’t get the allure of Gatlinburg/PF once I leave the cabin.
We like Old Dad's for a sausage, egg, and cheese biscuit in the morning. Wayyyy back when, my family would hit the old grocery store there (where the winery is now) on our way into the mountains. So for me, it's nostalgic to stop in at Old Dad's. Plus, I get to watch them change the number on the board when I ask "Where's the liquor store?"
We always eat dinner one night at Calhoun's. Food is good, and they make an orange mixed drink with fresh squeezed oranges that Upper Management loves. I like the Cherokee Ale.
Peddler, IMO, has fallen off from what it used to be.
Pigeon Forge. Old Mill and Apple Barn. That's about it.
Glades Loop is neat. Nothing like a real malt at the Soda Fountain there. And Three Jimmy's is a good lunch / beer spot.
But for the most part, we prefer to pack our lunches and thermos, and head up into the Smokies to spend most of our time. Nothing like a sip of Popcorn's finest while you're looking down at the clouds from Newfound Gap.
Next year can't get here soon enough. Two weeks in April. Home. Always will be.
