What an exciting time this is to be a Tennessee sports fan.

Rick Barnes’ basketball team is 8-0 and winning by 25 or 30 points per game. Chaz Lanier is doing quite a bit of what Dalton Knecht used to do.

Josh Heupel’s football Vols are 10-2 and in the scramble for the national championship. Dylan Sampson has set several rushing records. Nico is developing. Jermod McCoy is a rare lockdown corner. The defense is actually surly at times. YES it is indeed a great time to be a Tennessee Vol Marvin West! (Possibly the best ever) Good Job Marvin! READ IT! westwords

Marvin West

Marvin West has lasting credentials. He was sports editor of the student newspaper at the University of Tennessee in 1954. In what was then considered progress, he became sports editor and then managing editor of the Knoxville News-Sentinel. He went to Washington as national sports editor of Scripps-Howard News Service. He organized and directed coverage of World Series baseball, Final Four basketball, Super Bowls, Masters golf and seven Olympics. In Washington as in Knoxville, West was promoted to managing editor. He oversaw a staff of 90 and edited a daily news wire. Scripps had 410 newspaper and radio station customers. West was inducted into the U.S. Basketball Writers’ Hall of Fame. He is a member of four other halls and was named a “Distinguished American” by the National Football Foundation. Vol athletes chose him as an honorary letterman. (Marvin West ranks right up there with the Great John Ward in terms of excellence in his craft, greatness as a Man, and his Love and dedication for the University of Tennessee..)

I'm good. I thought you might have given me an accurate summary. You must've left some out in your comment.
No, my goal is to urge fans to read Marvin West. It's educational & entertaining. If I told the whole story, that would make it unnecessary to read the article.

I absolutely love reading his articles. He writes as though he’s telling you a story around a camp fire. Much like listening to a John Ward broadcast. Mr West paints a picture. What a treasure he is.

What exactly would it hurt for you to read the article? I teased it with enough to create some interest in learning the rest of the story. Everyone can use some extra enlightenment.

I’m 64. I grew up reading Mr. West‘s work. On sundays, no matter who won, I’d spread the sports section out on the floor, then lay out on top of that print and read the “cartoon” that showed every drive. It was the post-mortem of the game- afterwards I’d literally have ink on my elbows. But Mr. West‘s column was always saved for last. He is the epitome of a wordsmith.

The next article below the mentioned article is equally good in regard to Coach Cafego and his hatred for all things VU.

#EverythingSchool
Dr. White said: “We take great pride in being the ‘Everything School.’ We don’t buy into being average or mediocre in anything we do. We have 20 sports and we want to compete for championships in all of them.” YEP!

Marvin makes me wish for the days of a 3 foot wide front page Newspaper that you read every page of. We lived among some genius writers .. And benefited greatly, learning new words most every edition. Nowadays, people are too locked in their phones to learn much.
