Happy Heupelversary!

I've said this many times in many threads. But I just genuinely like Coach Heup. There's not a part of me that thinks "yeah, but he's probably different than he seems," like I did with Pruitt, Dooley, or Butch. I don't feel like he puts on a front for anyone. I feel like what we see is what we get, and what we get is just a very fun, passionate, caring guy who loves the game of football and loves his players. That, in today's game, is very refreshing. I am pulling for Heup not just as a football coach, but as a person. We need more men in the world like him.

Couldn't have said it better. Something about his South Dakota upbringing meshes with the East Tennessee culture..........or so it seems.

Its amazing how it's worked out, we finally got lucky shopping on the bargain rack
Not really how it happened ever. Tennessee was never afraid to pay big money to a big name. It’s just no big name wanted to be here. They went after mullet twice, Franklin was pursued, inquiries were made about some other names as well on different searches. If you want to point out we’ve been absolutely incompetent during most coaching searches I will agree there but we weren’t exactly cheap.

Winning cures everything BUT I do think Heupel is a good dude as well and actually cares about the players he coaches. Players recognize a fake quickly.

I just want to state for the record that I completely underestimated the importance of that day/hire. So thankful D White knew what he was doing that day and every day since so far.

Happy Heupel Day VN!
I would bump the thread announcing the hiring of Josh Heupel, just to embarrass the idiots who were denouncing the hire as another dud, but I won't .... because I was one of those idiots. LOL.

If you would have told me two years ago that we would have 18 wins across the next two seasons (let alone one 11 win season and 7 of those against ranked opponents), a No 1 ranking at one point, a MAJOR bowl win, knock off 2 of the "big 3" that have plagued us for years and years, and finish year two ranked in/close to the Top 5; I would have said keep driving because you need to find a new dispensary.

AMAZINGLY OVERWHELMED by the culture, attitude, trajectory, and complete turn around Coach Heupel has brought to my beloved Tennessee Volunteers !!!

Didn't know really what to think the day of the hire. Just stayed patiently optimistic. It just felt different than the last 3 opening pressers. Just prayed his offense would work in the sec. He seemed genuine compared to the last 3 or 4 talking heads.

What's crazy is how Heupel has come in and made our previous coaches look silly. How hard the other coaches made things look. Heupel comes in with what 65 scholarship players 30 sum players transferring out. It's been pretty sweet to watch. It's hard to fathom what he has done from a 7-6 which was over achieving to 11-2 a year later one win away from playoffs. I'm still having a hard time wrapping my head around it.

Yup. It took a President and Chancellor who were willing to get on board and hire a proven Athletic Director before we could get what we have now. Truthfully, our program got better when Donde Plowman was hired. Without her, there is no Danny White here.

I think it was more that nobody was really up for the task.. it looked like a steep hill to climb probably… I think Pruitt had an over-inflated sense of himself, and Heupel was like ‘ah, here’s a challenge’ 😂 We fell backwards into a pile of birthday cake lol

Third most ranked wins in the nation.

FFS. We all suffered through some bullsh!t for years. I remember when the idea of getting a ranked win was like a fart in the wind.
