happy hour

I'm old and I have no idea what 'happy hours' are like now days....I do know they have been demonized to a large extend....IE the legal age for consumption was raised from 18 to 21, much tougher DUI laws, and overall changing the perception of young people and everyone really drinking to excess...

As the father of a daughter who was at UT 2001-2005 and the husband of an attorney who at one time early in her career defended a good number of alcohol related cases I know the more things changed, the more they stayed the same...

I attended UT from 1969-1974...I was also a bartender my last 2 years...for comparison, happy hour on and near the strip went something like this...
3 for 1 on well brands
25 cent beer was common all over the strip
10 cent was infrequent but not rare
hot food was common in nicer establishments, like the Sheraton Campus Inn where I was a bartender...about the only time we students frequented the place was happy hour...they would appear at the beginning and wipe out all the food and disappear at the end of happy hour...
as long as you were reasonably well behaved you could stumble up and down the strip without a problem from the cops

Whats the 'climate' now days?

I like the food specials. Nothing pairs better with a cold beer than food!

Whats the 'climate' now days?

Your post reminds me of my time at UT on the strip in the early 80's. There were a lot more places to drink and the age was 19. We had a lot of fun, but learned to control ourselves. I don't recall any secret binge type drinking that seems to be reported now. I have family members at UT now and I get the feeling they are in an unhealthy speakeasy type atmosphere. I wonder if the age being 21 may be actually leading to unintended consequences?
