How does that work? Trading a coach, that's just weird. I guess a team must fire their coach then give up draft picks to get Harbaugh, therefore SF doesnt have to buyout contract. (I'm assuming that's how it works). If so, that's kind of embarrassing for both parties. I guess it wouldn't be far fetched that Harbaugh takes a college job next year now.

Huh? I've not heard about this.

It was on the ticker at the bottom during the ut lady vols game. I read it twice, but still wasn't making a lot of sense to me. It said he will coach rest of season but will be shopped around for his rights. Trust me, I'm as confused as you are. This could be unprecedented.

I believe this has happened recently, like within the last 5 years. Don't remember who the coach and the teams that were involved tho

Edit: It was NBA

Gruden was traded to the buccaneers in the early 2000's. You can trade the contract of a coach to another team.

It's still a strange situation. I read the short article on espn just now. It said he might get a contract extension to stay if he makes a good run in playoffs, otherwise it's sayonara. Raiders and jets are showing interest.

Gruden was traded

Herm Edwards was.

Pretty much just an agreement is reached where the team the coach is on lets him out of his contract early and in turn, the team that it's been agreed to that he will sign gives his previous team agreed upon draft picks.

Heck it's looking like SF might not even make the playoffs. There is only 6 playoff spots, and there is currently 6 NFC teams with better records than them. Plus the winner of the South division will automatically earn a birth. ATL and NO is tied for first in the South with 5-7 records.

Now, I guess the burning question is would Harbaugh say screw all of Ya and go to college game. Michigan, Nebraska, or possibly fla are the big openings out there. I could see it possibly unfolding that way, since Jets and Raiders is not somewhere I'd want to hang my hat to further my career.

If he had already been traded between two NFL franchises? No, I don't think he could do that.

In 1948, Ernie Harwell(The famous Detroit Tigers Radio Announcer) became the only announcer in baseball history to be traded for a player when the Brooklyn Dodgers' general manager, Branch Rickey, traded catcher Cliff Dapper.

i remember my bucs gave up 2 or 3 first round picks for gruden so it works out well for san fran IF they can get a good replacement i gotta think harbaugh is worth atleast 2 first rounders if gruden was maybe even 3

man i wish we could send lovie packin and do it again for harbaugh he'd be worth it unlike gruden

Didn't Gruden get TB to a super bowl win. I'd say that's worth two or three unknown players.

yea but after winning it with brad johnson that year he never got off that old vet QB kick he'd just grab another washed up guy like brian griese and jeff garcia and plug em in instead of drafting somebody young it got old fast plus he never stocked us with talent like dungy did he just won with dungy's players then left us with a garbage team by the time he was fired

he had some bad luck tho like caddy williams getting hurt

hell if the GM/owners would of forked over the dough to get dungy keyshawn johnson we might of won it all with him
