Harvick Asks out of Contract

Kevin Harvick asks out of contract with Richard Childress - Tim Tuttle - SI.com

As I've thought all along, the most favorable situation involves him going to Stewart.

I've got an idea....let Harvick go to Stewart, let Dale Jr. go to Childress and drive his dad's old ride and let Keselowski take the vacant Hendrick seat left by Jr. Hell would freeze over before that happened but it would be a better fit for everyone. I'm sure Hendrick enjoys it more to have a driver that brings in a ton of money and sponsorships for doing nothing more than starting the engine on race day.

wise move.

besides a win in the Daytona 500 and a handful of races, RCR hasn't done anything since Dale Sr. died.

RCR oughtta go back to three cars. It's not like they were an elite team last year, but they've really dropped off this year since adding the fourth team. Seems like they're spread too thin over there.

It's the Casey Mears curse. Every team he drives for goes down a couple notches.

They did put 3 cars in the chase last year. Thats pretty solid. I know they didn't battle for a championship but it's not shabby.

I don't see Harvick asking out unless he already has an offer somewhere else(most likely SH) or if he is possibly thinking of moving his nationwide or truck program to Cup and drive his own stuff.

It will be hard enough to secure sponsorship for the 29 or 31 next year. They'll probably be 3 next year, if not 2.

I definately believe that. Look at how poorly he ran in the #5 car for Hendrick and then what Martin has done with the same team. What does that say about him?

Eh, I won't hold that against Mears since Martin is also outrunning Gordon and Johnson as well.

It appears RCR is going to make Harvick and Shell honor the original contracts. I just can't see this marriage lasting for 50 more races.

It'll be interesting to watch, Richard is a hard-ass when it comes to these contracts. After the crap he went through to keep AT&T on Burtons car, I think he'll make Kevin run out his contract, he just doesn't back down.

I wouldn't go that far, check the point standings.
I would. Martin has more wins than Gordon and Johnson combined and if not for a three race stretch in the first month of the season where he blew two engines and cut a tire, all while running well into the top 10, he'd be right there with the 24 and 48 in the standings.

Not to mention, thanks to the Chase, Martin is actually "leading" at the moment because of his four wins.

I just hope he MAKES the Chase after winning so many times. He should get in, but if he doesn't, someone will have some explaining to do as to why NASCAR's winningest driver won't be contending for the championship.

Unless he has another rash of rotten luck like he did in the first few races of the year,, Martin will make the Chase with all kinds of room to spare.

I agree that Martin could be even higher in the points if not for a few problems and I am not saying the other guys are better. I am just saying that he is not outrunning them either. Having engine problems and tire problems are part of the sport. Martin also has more wins than Tony Stewart but I wouldn't say he is outrunning Stewart either. I like Martin a lot and want him to win the championship but I just don't think he is outrunning everyone, just most of them.

Also, Martin has earned 40 bonus points so far for 4 wins towards the chase but that is not enough to make him the current leader if the chase started today.

Who has more than four wins?

I'd rather have Martin's season right now than anyone else's. I understand that winning doesn't mean much in NASCAR, but I'm still fond of it.
