Has Barnes gotten a technical foul this year?

This game deserved at least one. There were some legitimately questionable calls, like the two charges against Chandler, but there were three calls in particular that went against Tennessee that were obviously wrong.

1. The play where the Arkansas player bounced the ball off of JJJ. The Arkansas player had taken two steps out of bounds when he touched the ball. The official closest to the play correctly signaled Tennessee ball but was overruled by the ref on the other side of the court. THE OTHER SIDE OF THE COURT.

2. The fourth foul on Vescovi. There is no way that was a charge. None. It probably should have been a no call, but if the refs insisted on calling something, the foul had to go to Williams. He was not in a legal guarding position in front of Vescovi and came over very late to initiate contact.

3. The foul for the elbow on Aidoo. Yes, I know that Aidoo whacked him with his elbow, but Williams (again) was in that imaginary cylinder that the refs supposedly are enforcing to prevent this kind of foul from happening in the first place. If they don’t want to enforce that rule, then get rid of it in the offseason. But because it IS a rule, then call the cylinder violation when it happens. Should have been another foul on Williams.

Honestly, Williams should have been in foul trouble if the refs had been competent. Instead, they put our players on the bench instead of him.

But back to my original question. I don‘t remember any technical fouls called on Barnes this year. Does he have any?

Our best player was in foul trouble for a big portion of the game (and fouled out on a terrible call), plus they refused to to call y'all for mauling us under the basket when it was happening consistently.

The refs weren't good but it wasn't one sided

I honestly did not see the “mauling” inside learn the definition of mauling and get back on here

Our best THREE players were in foul trouble for most of the game, and Williams, the player who was drawing the fouls on our guys, should have been in foul trouble but wasn’t. We had to play zone for a lot of the second half because of all the fouls, and frankly we suck at zone defense. The refs forced us to change our game plan.

To be fair, James got away with a foul on a breakaway for Arkansas.

So yes, the officiating was bad for both sides, but Tennessee got the worst of it.

Getting a technical does nothing but give away free points. It didn’t help Kentucky when Cal got one in TBA. We still got most of the calls. Coaches can’t make refs stop sucking.

Technical fouls on the coach could only help if his team is showing lack of effort or focus. Wasn't our problem tonight. Seldom is.

Post-game on radio, Barnes spoke strongly about the calls, especially the charging calls, but also pointed out that in one first half sequence, we came down 7 times and got the open shot we wanted... and missed each one.

Several times he mentioned that he understood his players' hesitancy to take it hard to the basket when someone's going to slide under you and you get called for a charge. Barnes' final statement was, "I hope after looking at the video I feel differently [about the refereeing] than I do now."

Agree to disagree on this one. Yes, it potentially gives up two points, but if played correctly it can influence a few questionable calls. . .especially if you don‘t have a reputation as being a coach who rides the officials all game. It makes them think about their calls if a normally quiet coach goes off on them.

Barnes should have thrown a chair

While I appreciate sarcasm as much as the next person, a technical foul for yelling at a referee is not the same as going Bobby Knight on someone. I’m sure you understand the difference.

After hearing your idiot fans boo every call, it's hard to take anything from your fanbase seriously. Enjoy the gift wrapped victory. Payback coming in Knoxville.

Looks like you started the thread, so yes.
Discussing the calls made in the game isn’t really complaining. That’s a big part of the game, and there are a whole lot of controversial calls. So before you feel the need to get on a thread and start calling people idiots for discussing controversial calls, remember this is a public forum.

Hahahaha…it was absolutely horrible.

Tony Greene loves him some charge calls.

This seems like an unprovoked response to me, but whatever.

My original question was, “Has Barnes gotten a technical foul this year?” (which BTW no one has answered yet).

I never said that he needed to get one called on him on this game. I said that “this game deserved one“. I was ticked off watching it, the fans at the arena were ticked off, and I’m betting the coaches and players were, too. If I were coaching in this game (yes, I know, thank goodness I’m not), then I probably would have lost it at some point, probably when Vescovi got his 4th foul. That’s what made me wonder if Barnes had gotten a tech this year.

It didn’t help Calipari’s team Tuesday…
It did have an effect actually. His arguing influenced the refs on calling over the back fouls on Tshiebwe. He should have had 5+ more fouls called on him that weren't. Cal's tech may not have changed the overall outcome of the game but it most certainly had an effect on the refs.
