I'm tired of the speculation based on his grades. Looking at other verifiable factors, his draft stock now is probably as good as its going to get. I see our team being worse next year, atleast offensively. He would be smart to head out now.

Well they can't be worse on defense...

I think people on here are very wrong about his draft stock. He needs to improve his route running skills. I do not see an NFL team drafting him in the first round when he hasn't shown he can run good WR routes. They will not waste a first round pick on a punt returner/ project wide out. If he comes back and improves his WR skills, he would then be a legit first rounder.

I would take him over Hunter.

Still not declared? Please football gods...let this man return!

I don't see him returning. Two reasons come to mind. The first is he is not likely to improve his draft status by returning and could even get an injury and hurt his status. Secondly, I honestly think he is not academically eligible to play next semester.....

Of course, CP did say that CBJ will take care of him should he decide to return.

So, that means that CBJ will build ALOT of his offense around CP to get him the stats, Heisman consideration, and improve his draft status.....

Worse. I don't think so.

On the campus directory it shows him as inactive as of 12/24/12. Don't know if that means anything

Our team may not be worse, but our schedule will be tougher. We get to trade one of our wins (NC State) for a game at Oregon. Trading Auburn for Miss. State is a toss-up.

That being said, we have no idea what kind of product Butch Jones will put on the field. It wouldn't take much to flip some of our losses to wins (we could have tied or taken the lead with our last possession in five of our losses).

I agree completely. Patterson would be better served by spending another year at UT. As would Bray and Hunter for that matter. Patterson plays a risky position where many of the most proven college athletes turn out to be busts. I don't see him as a day 1 pick at this point. Needs a deepest resume before a legit team takes a look at him in the big money rounds.

If CP is gone - it is delusional to think that the NFL team he goes to will not be able to develop him. They will be drafting him to primarily be a WR. In the NFL each player does the things they do well in special situations or special teams until they are ready. James Jones of the Packers was a CP type guy with worse hands when he was drafted. He spent years being developed and eased into the rotation. Now he is an excellent WR that the Packers cannot do without. CP will start off running the routes and plays he understands well first. The rest of it will develop over time.

He is a gamebreaker. I would love to see him come back and get more experience. But it appears he will be in the NFL.

I don't think anyone is questioning that he has a future in the NFL, or that he will greatly improve under the guidance of an NFL staff. But, an NFL team will not waste a high draft pick on a guy that is a project unless they are a team that has absolutely no real needs, and can afford to draft a guy on potential.

Regardless of whether he stays or not, it's not a grade situation. Per DeerPark a few days ago on Scout it has to do with meeting NCAA requirements of progress towards graduation while trying to retake classes he took at his JuCo that UT doesn't accept as transfers. The grade stuff has been pure speculation without any base. Enough of the talk about him not passing classes.. Hope he finds a way to return, but I don't see it. He'd be passing up a year's worth of a massive paycheck.

I think he is #16 on Kiper's Big Board. He is going pro and going in the first round.

I see him as a top 3 heisman candidate next year if he stays. Im sure Butch has told him that he will be the heisman winner next year and that could be easily obtainable. I also believe that CBJ would be smart enough to give CP the ball as many times as.possible.

Ask Ted Ginn about that

I read somewhere that wide receiver is among the most unpredictable positions in the NFL. Trying to find the link now. Even the most polished college players bust. Braylon Edwards and those kids out of USC JR come to mind.
