I voted the yes with a qualifier (#3)
Our record is close to the same. We don't have the "signature" win, but we don't have a terrible loss either.
What is certain is, we have a less talented team than last year.

I don't understand why the turnovers have not gotten any better as the season has progressed. Seems like first game every game and we just don't have much aggressiveness inside. Only a couple of players off the bench. I question why Brown continues to start and Key just doesn't appear to have an aggressive bone in her body.

I would vote Yes but not for any of the reasons listed. I know people hate hearing it but Tennessee is equal parts highly talented but less experienced underclassmen and some players who, bless them (Lord this sounds condescending but) but they are not equal to the talent or athleticism around them. Coaching can help with some of this, but Tennessee is severely limited in some areas and there's just nowhere to go for help this season. Getting Zaay Green back will help. Getting some talented recruits will help. Tennessee will need to do both to improve.

I didn’t hesitate to vote, “Yes, without a doubt,” because I have not for one moment this season thought that the team or staff had thrown in the towel. They are running plays, they are playing much better defense, their body language (overall) is light years ahead of last year, their have been improvements in several players, and I believe that the players trust and believe in the staff.

They are far from perfect, and even tremendously frustrating at times because of the turnovers. But I see far more positives than negatives this year compared to last, so, YES, this is a better “team” than last year’s. The vibe is totally different from the top down.

This is MY opinion. If others don’t agree, that’s okay. I stand by it.

Easily the first choice as this team has an annoying tendency to stray off topic...

I don’t want to sound condescending because I’m fairly new to this particular board but if you could explain what you see that makes you think this team has digressed. Again this isn’t meant to come off as negative I’m just curious to hear your thoughts.

I do think they are better from an attitude and chemistry mindset. I also don’t think they are as talented and some of the new arrivals haven’t exactly set the world on fire

They are a less talented team that has IMO met expectations. No losses to inferior teams, but no good wins either. Last year's team had a lot of bad losses, and they were way more talented than this year's team.

If I were grading them, they are probably a B- for the season, compared to last year's F.

We didn't lose to Alabama, for a change, so one might argue that we have improved, if only a little. A two season reset is reasonable, given roster and staff turnover (all puns intended?).
Check back after next season for an evaluation driven by fact rather than emotion.

The same holds true for UNC, where both staff and roster have changed a lot.
Their coach seems to be doing a little better at recruiting, so far, but it's early days...

"No, in fact, the team has digressed" Degreased? Regressed? ;)

I was just giving the OP a hard time. I think the word he was looking for is "REgressed." I didn't actually vote, because message board polls are stupid IMO.

Welcome to the forum. If you stick around long enough, you'll get used to me...

I digress is a phrase used when someone realizes they've been rambling ... for a long time ... about something that isn't even relevant to the original question or topic. It can also call attention to a smart observation

Regress: return to a former or less developed state.

It only took me half a year
;o)

This team seems slow to me. They have a lot of height, but don't seem to get down the court very quickly. Seems like some of the other good teams have a couple of quick players that cause us a lot of trouble. I think Kelly needs to concentrate on getting some talented guards with speed to help counter that. Maybe Green is faster. It is apparent they miss her. GBO.

I don't think that there is any doubt we are playing better as a team compared to last year. Our troubles are a mixture of all of the above. Coaching mistakes, young players, bad luck and everything else u can think of. With experience and good recruiting things will get better but hang on it may be a ruff ride until then.

A lot of things have improved from last season except were not better in the post or at point guard. The reason is mostly youth and inexperience.

Over 75% of our scoring is gone. As several have said, you have new coaches with a whole new ideology. This is a team with several talented players, however, those talented players need to be consistent and clean up their turnovers. I believe that the players are not built for the scheme coaches are trying to teach. KJH’s success at MoState was based upon keeping fresh players in and out of the lineup, that has not been that effective with the players she inherited. This team does not have the speed the 3 shooters who have range but also can dribble drive. These players lack the energy or aggression of KJH’s MoState team. The Lady Bears had that us against the world mentality, which does not appear to be part this team’s mentality.

The LVs are also young with four freshmen that need to be developed, that in and of itself can make it difficult to compare this year’s team against last year’s team. I believe that this year’s bench is weaker than last years bench. Last but not least, KJH has to change the culture she and her staff inherited. Players in the past had that mojo that has been lost for several years. In the past, LV players played with heart and conviction, they expected within themself that they could beat you. They were energized by the name on their uniforms and people feared that name. We have a new type of Lady Vol player, we have to reinstate that desire and fire to duplicate that LV pride. That desire to leave it all on the floor.

IMO we had important improvements during the offseason. Culture seems (from what we can see) to be vastly improved. Also, a couple of players, Rennia and Jaz improved significantly during the offseason. However, its hard for me to see much overall improvement during the course of the season, we are pretty much who we were from the git go this year.

I'm disappointed with that, and still holding out faint hopes we'll pull something together for the post season. But I'm willing to be patient, I still believe next season is when we'll see some consistency and noticeable improvement.

Lets see what happens Thursday...I predict the team will continue its new direction
