I am hearing that your boy Calipari is in contract talks with Oklahoma.

That surprises me.

His name is also being mentioned for the NC State job. Do you think he will leave? Now might be his best chance to get out if he wants to leave Memphis.

I'll see what I can find out. Of course, if you listen to various reports, Cal has negotiated with Indiana, Arizona State, NC State, the Harlem Globetrotters, and the Lithuanian National Team. Oklahoma makes more sense than the others. Cal's wife is from Kansas and he got his coaching start in the old Big Eight. Still, I'd be rather shocked if there's any substance to this.

She was working at KU when Cal was an assistant there under Ted Owens and Larry Brown.

There would be a certain cache' to coaching in the ACC, but I think Memphis is a better job than NC State. The only job that might come open anytime soon that I think Cal would certainly take is Kentucky.

i wish you all could hear the call in shows over here in Charlotte about this NCSU thing....it's hilarious. some of the names the fans are dropping, well, let's just say realistic is not exactly what i would call it.

one even said Jim Calhoun. :birgits_giggle:

I think NCSU fans are about to find out what kind of program they really have, one way or another...if they can't attract a big time coach, then uh oh....... :fool:

Why don't they just hire Bobby Lutz? He's the perfect fit for them. Once they get done being rejected by "big names," they can get down to realistically finding a coach.

As funny as that seems, Calhoun did seriously consider South Carolina when they hired Odom.

did not know that.....i'm sure he's happy with his decision....and i'm sure NCSU is not on Calhoun's brain at this point.

And Lutz would do it in a hearbeat....since being at UNCC, he can't stand the fact that the other schools in the state, besides ECU, App St and WCU, won't schedule his team......and them now being the A10, he really wants to play as many ACC schools as possible....
