Have we lost sight that the rebuild is ahead of schedule?

I know it's easy to lose our minds and I know we looked pretty terrible last night. However this team is currently on pace to make a bowl game which I don't think anyone in their right mind would've expected at the beginning of the year. No one would've considered this team capable of beating South Carolina or competing with UGA.

We have the #2 recruiting class in the country coming in which addresses several need areas. Our team has made strides on the field and off the field to get this thing turned around.

I haven't changed my calendar since Jan 1999, so I'm going to continue to believe that we should roll-over every team we play.

I haven't! 6-6 and a bowl game. That's what I said all the way back in April! Our team is track to do just that. ,

Many predicted 6-6 for the regular season this year. I personally said 7-5. Hopefully they can pull themselves together and get a couple more wins. I'm staying positive and sticking with 7-5 until the results show different. Go Vols!

I thought we would win 6. maybe pull an upset between UGA and SCAR since they were home games for 7 wins. Mizzou and Auburn were toss ups. Boring bowl game to follow. Seems were on track to me.

After last night's performance we're not on track to do anything but lose the next 3 games. This team has regressed since the SC game. Are the teams tougher? Yes, but players are getting beat, taking horrible angles, and are dropping passes that should be caught 100% of the time.

Let's make a bowl game, which has been the head coaches stated goal since he arrived for the season, then start patting ourselves on the back.

That's an up hill climb right now as there is another top 10 team at the doorstep and Vandy never goes down easy.

And I would rather have the number 2 class in February, not November.

Typical overreaction. You really think Vandy and UK are as good as Missouri or this team plays as badly as it did last night.

This program hasn't been good enough to overlook and get away with it against anyone since 2001.

Good point OP. I do find it funny that prior to the start of the season, a LOT of posters were saying that we would be lucky to go 5-7 again or that we would definitely only win 4 this year, and most agreed that 6-6 with a Bowl game was as good as we could hope for. Yes, we got skunked by Mizzou, which several thought we'd win, but as luck would have it they are ranked in the Top 10 in the nation. On the flipside, we beat South Carolina, which most people didn't think he had a fighter's chance of doing, and we broke the streak of losing to ranked opponents. It's obvious that this program is headed in the right direction, but some people are just blind. We're still on track to hit that 6-6, but now that we're 4-5 (with all 5 losses coming from all but one Top 15 team), a lot of people are saying "We suck," and "Fire Butch," and "Butch Doesn't Get It." In truth... this is just ignorant. It's unfortunate that the Tennessee fanbase mentality is similar to that of a 14 year old girl. Rather than focus on the positives, we live in the negatives and point out every flaw. Mind you, we're expected to have flaws, as it's Year 0 and a rebuilding year. You know who just doesn't 'get it?' People.

Coming in, I thought we'd win 5. 6 was being optimistic, and 7 was the absolute best case.

So far, this team has performed exactly like I thought they would. They've given some teams a game, they got blown out in some games, and they've squashed their cupcake opponents. People don't realize just how bad this team is compared to most everyone else they've played.

I sure hope not. I do know that Vandy crushed us last year with us having twice the offensive talent as them.

I had said that 6-6 was the low mark, if we don't make that then maybe CBJ is not the man for the job. Of course all that was before the Barn and big MO was so high ranked. even Vandy is better that I thought they would be.

Still was not happy with our offence sat night, a good coach would have not set up Dobbs to fail like he did. the read option has it place, But CBJ had better learn how to line up and run smash mouth football (power I) or find him a Tebow to run it.

No, Auburn is ahead of schedule. I like what Butch is doing in recruiting and other aspects, but Missouri has not had that dominant of recruiting classes. Also, if they or Worley does not want to keep ball, don't waste time on "read option" if he is not going to "read the option".

Last year's team had given up after the fiasco against Missouri when Dooley shut down in the 4th quarter. The mindset yesterday was troubling because they never looked like they had a clue. Up until yesterday, this team played as a unit with energy. I expect that will return Saturday against Auburn. 6-6 is still on the table and 7-5 is possible.

GO VOLS!!!

Agree that Auburn has overachieved, while we're still down in the SEC cellar with Arky and UK. Our season has taken an ugly downturn, and while there's no reason to panic, there's no reason to pat ourselves on the back, either. We've played poorly as many times as we've played well.

I think it's time VOLNATION needs to lose all the naysayers and swing them over to vandy fans. If you can't follow the Vols win or lose then get off the wagon and when you get off then don't bother trying to jump back on. So far this year I think we have found out who the losers are. What a bunch of babies.

Agreed, before the season started the consensus was 6-6 or 7-5. How did some people expect to lose those games, last second field goals by our opponent? I'm not happy with the gigantic losses, but I am realistic. We have the toughest schedule in the game,(sorry Utah), and we have very little elite talent on the field at one time. We are on track, though it may be a long one, we will get there. GBDO

Being at this years UGA and USC games reminded me of the good times. I hope that same atmosphere permeates the stadium for the 2 remaining home games. They made being in Neyland fun again. [ even as an oldie that music that music..lol]

Go Vols! win or lose. Last night was bad, but today the sting is starting to go away. Rebuilding and taking some hard loses will make our wins and return to relevance taste even sweeter. Nothing left to do but stay positive for the team.

Yep, Vandy and Kentucky are both just as dangerous as Mizzou and Auburn. That logic seems fine :eek:lol:

Nobody's talking about overlooking. He was simply saying they are not top 10 teams except for Auburn. We should be able to win 2 of next 3. Keep in mind also that prior to the season no one expected Mizzou and Auburn to be as good as they are. This schedule has been brutal for a rebuilding team. If we get to a bowl game this year it will be a significant accomplishment. :peace2:

Like it or not...fans need to realize this rebuild it going to take baby steps. Some will point to Auburn and say if they turned it around in one season why can't we? Answer...they simply had more talent to work with (3 consecutive top 10 recruiting classes). We will get there...but fans need to be realistic, supportive, and optimistic! I promise you the coaches, players, and recruits take notice. Go Vols!
