I feel comfortable saying the UT game against the Tigers will be played at a breakneck pace. Lots of young guys playing that fast, the ball will be flying all over the place. The spectators in the first few rows might want to invest in protective headgear.

I agree, Hat. The Memphis game will be exciting! I have heard alot of people say that Memphis will be a team to watch even with the loss of their top 2-3 scorers.

They're in much the same boat as UT. They'll have some growing pains but, come February, the Tigers will be very good.

Oklahoma's not very good. Memphis still has the Georgia Tech-Purdue winner and UCLA or Kentucky left out in Maui.

Yep... I was looking at their schedule and forgot about the Maui tournament. I guess, we are the toughest firtst opponent they will face other than the teams they might face in the Maui tournament.

Hat, when do you think that Memphis and UT will be a good rival as far as basketball goes? I am talking year in year out could it be this year or do we have to wait?

I think it's a good matchup now. Two charismatic coaches, two teams on the rise. If they continue to play every year, it will develop into a solid rivalry.

Win or lose, I think UT, and Tennessee basketball (the state, not the university) will benefit greatly from a UT/Memphis game every year, in a similar manner to UK vs. Louisville.

I like a little rivalry between these schools especially after that reporter this past summer pestering Coach Pearl

i expect the game to be extraordinarily sloppy. i follow both teams, and both play good defense. if dorsey is healthy memphis has more depth down low than ut. both play young point guards. ut's advantage is lofton. he is the solid outside shooter the tigers are looking for. jeremy hunt, doneal mack, chris douglas roberts, or antonio anderson could develop into that guy but not before the ut game. if ut wins it will because of the 3 point basket.

Memphis just laid a big ole egg in the second half against Ga Tech.

And living in Memphis I was sooo looking forward to hosting an undefeated Tiger team in Knoxville. Nothing like giving the little cousin their first loss.

I don't know if the Memphian fan base realizes it yet. Sport talk there is very dismissive and condescending. I'd love to see us sneak up on 'em this year ( the fans that is....I'm sure that John C. will be prepared for a street brawl ).

I think it might happen. Judging this how bad the Memphis reporter pissed Coach Pearl off. All he needs is some motivation and we didn't lose that bad last year either. We will see

I can state with absolute certainty that Cal knows UT is on the upswing in a big way.
