This is a strange matchup.

I don't know how much any of y'uns follow Iowa football, but the Hawkeyes have put together a decent season. They pounded on some creampuffs early, beat ISU, ended up with the nation's 2nd leading rusher, knocked off Penn State, and ended the season by demolishing the once promising Gophers. They lost 4 games (3 on the road) by a total of 12 points. Losses were to Northwestern, Michigan State, Illinois, and Pittsburg.

I will, of course, be cheering wildly for the Hawks, and I am pretty confident they will stomp on the 'Cocks ( kinda makes ya cringe, doesn't it?)?

Anyone besides me interested at in this game?

IHateOrange, any comments?

I remember...more and more faintly all the time...when you actually had to be good to go to a bowl game.

I'm interested to see how Iowa's running game performs against the USCe D. Shonn Greene runs over people; he had two 200+ yd games, and every game was >100 yds. Iowa also plays good defense. I think the Hawks win.

I know New Years Day bowls aren't exactly what they used to be... but I'm stunned that there is a match-up between teams the caliber of South Carolina and Iowa.

Maybe I shouldn't say much about Iowa since I didn't see them play at all this year, but SC is terrible.

SC has not played well recently. They have the same qb problems we had, they all really suck. I hope they pull out the win though, one of the few SEC teams that I will root for in a bowl game.

My husband and I went to the Outback Bowl last year. Stayed in Clearwater and opened a bottle of champagne on the beach New Year's Eve.

I have really fond memories of the Outback Bowl. :) Sometimes ya gotta live beyond the game.

I like the Outback Bowl. I consider it the lowest an SEC team can go and still feel like they had an ok season - probably because it's always on NYD.

But, yes, there are a ton of useless bowls out there.

there's been talk of NYD bowls not mattering anymore.

and now there's proof with this game.

Iowa = Shonne Green and nobody else really.

OFFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE YEAR: Shonn Greene, Iowa
DEFENSIVE LINEMAN OF THE YEAR: Mitch King, Iowa

First Team Big 10:
Shonn Greene, Iowa Running Back
Seth Olsen, Iowa Guard
Brandon Myers, Iowa Tight End
Mitch King, Iowa Line

2nd team Big 10:
Rob Bruggeman, Iowa Center
Bryan Bulaga, Iowa Tackle
Pat Angerer (great name), Iowa linebacker
Amari Spievey, Iowa Defensive Back
Ryan Donahue, Iowa Punter

Definitely not a lot of big name guys, but a gutsy bunch this year. Tune in to see the Cocks be run over.
