HBO's "Game of Thrones"

Yes and no.

Crossbows were seen as an evolution of the longbow during Medieval times and was a significant change in warfare. However, as was pointed out in an earlier season, they took a long time to reload and didn't have the "rate of fire" of a trained long bowman. Nor the accuracy of a good archer at long range.

On the flip side, training archers, specifically those with a longbow, took a lot of time, a lot of practice and a good deal of strength. Crossbows were able to turn normal infantry into long range weapons with a minimal amount of training.

I think you're seeing more of the large versions of the Dragon-killer crossbow this season rather than the handheld version.

I actually like this, it proves that Cersei is not an idle foe. Shows she's just as clever as Tyrion and as ruthless in war tactics as her father and her brother. People keep talking about how Dany gets underestimated, how about Cersei? She is a legitimate threat to stay on the throne...the show removed the prophecy about her little brother killing her. Wonder if that was done to leave the door open on her not being killed?

When this season started I was so sad to learn it was the end and only 6 episodes. But, it's pretty clear the writers can't match the first several seasons so it's probably for the best. Not terrible, but as others have mentioned it's been a pretty "Hollywood-y" season.

Sam was rather ok with Jon leaving him for dead at the battle of winterfell. Thought maybe they would have worked that a little. But like said earlier, only 6 episodes and can’t work every angle.

I would have expected a significant character to get offed in this episode. Not wanting it, but would be a very GoT thing to have done.

Lion, Dragon, Stag or Wolf. One of the Houses that have claim to the throne should be losing someone soon.

One of the best scifi/fantasy/comics reviewers on YouTube is a guy named Charlie..his channel is called "Emergency Awesome". I love his stuff, he pretty much shoots down the really crazy theories, and breaks down the most likely options. He is the best at it imo. He has grown to have a humongous following. I highly recommend. He also does spoilery and non spoilery breakdowns, and lists in the description which it is.
Ser Hunts reviews is the worst. dude calls fan theory "leaks". I listened to two of his and blocked his channel lol.

You say this like there's someone going to take Winterfell? Cersei has made good on her own promise to never return there from Season 1 (think it was) and with the undead gone there is no threat. The Free People being allies has eliminated Winterfell's greatest foe.

I actually wonder if Winterfell becomes the new capital after Dany burns King's Landing down...
I still think there’s some plot twist in waiting, although I admit that we’re running out of episodes.

Can’t believe that Sansa is essentially abandoned at Winterfell though. There must be some reason that she’s up there (plot device/drama reason, not why she’d stay there if she were a real person).

Did anybody think Missandei was gonna grab Cercei and throw her off like I did? 🤣

Figured Cersei was going to push her...then she just asked her for a last word. Then I thought she'll jump. Was surprised she just stood there for the execution.

I feel like the writing has changed since they don't have Martin's books & opinions to direct the story at this point. It's not bad, but it is different and unfortunately more predictable than it has been. Other GoT fanatics on YT have pointed it out as well characters now have "plot armor" as they say, like Jon surviving his first encounter with the NK North of the Wall.

At this point I actually see it as more proof that the North isn't fully behind Dany. It's essentially saying "Sansa isn't part of my council" by Dany not having her come along. I kind of wish they had made that more of an issue/argument on screen though so we could see that the trust isn't there between Sansa (the North) and Dany.

The lack of GRRM material has been painfully obvious. I have not been a big fan of the last two seasons. GRRM's material made GoT. If you take away GRRM's writing and influence, this show is just a "good if you don't really think about it" Hollywood TV show.

It's still above average television, but the past two seasons cannot compare to the early seasons when the show runners could just screenwrite the entire season line-for-line from the ASOIAF books.

So when the Ironborn had all their ballistas on the ship bows, why didn't Dany circle back and torch all their asses? They can't shoot at her through their sails. Pretty amazing that they hit the dragon with their first 3 shots when they've never practiced and they were far enough away to somehow not be seen by flying scouts

Missandei had such an easy opportunity to grab Cersei and pull her off the ledge. Nobody could have stopped her.

Any idea how the dragon dive avoided all those giant catapult bolts aimed right at it? Another thing that bothered me after thinking about it.
How did so many airplanes in WWII get through hundreds of millions of rounds of flak? It ain't easy hitting a moving target that is trying to avoid being hit.

Also, they handled Bronn horribly...

Bronn: "Yo dudes, I was sent to kill you guys but I'm down with whoever wins."

Tyrion and Jaimie: "Cool bruh, catch on the flip."

Not to mention he just OH BY THE WAY walked right into Winterfell just days or weeks after they were on full military alert, while carrying a very obvious weapon.

That's the biggest thing that's changed to me, the writing has stopped being motivated by character's intentions so much as plot. It's why sloppy things are now happening more often with less reasoning behind them.

The closest thing they've done to character driven intention in the last 2 season to me has been with Sansa. She wants Jon on the Iron Throne and everything she's done very much has been driven by that.

She runs Winterfell. It is her place, she has zero reason for leaving it. She is the defacto ruler of the north now l.

What in the crap is the point in watching something where everybody worth a damn dies or is destroyed? What is predictable is that nobody with a normal brain wants to see crap like that.

One of the interesting stakes at play that they mentioned last night is that if Cersei wins, the fight with the wights (and their existence) would just be erased from history books.

I do wish they would let Arya be the one to kill Certs. It probably will not be, but to have the last thing she sees be a Stark smiling down at her as she bleeds out from the neck would be a absolutely glorious.
