It'll be good to get back to one of the old homebases and check out new Yankee Stadium for the first time.

Doesn't have the aura of The Stadium. But is truly a museum.

Enjoy.

There's enough history there to make it enjoyable even if you don't care about either team.

I still can't get over the fact that they tore down Yankee Stadium to move across the street. If there was ever a team that didn't need all the extra BS revenue that the new stadiums generate, it's the Yankees. And yet they threw away the most significant ballpark in the country for something they didn't need anyway. My dad would have argued that they basically ruined the "real" Yankee Stadium when they renovated it in the seventies, but still -- it was the same field that Ruth played on. You could look out at the facade and think about Mickey Mantle hitting it. I detest the Yankees, like all right-thinking Americans, but I'm grateful I got to see a few games in what was inarguably the high holy cathedral of baseball.

If they had moved to Manhattan, then yeah, I could have seen how it might be worth it. But to tear down Yankee Freaking Stadium so they could move across the street? Bah.

I agree. The new Stadium has the perks. But the aura is gone. Seeing the spots where Mantle, Dimaggio, Ruth and Gehrig stood gave me chills. (not to mention all the other historical events that happened there.)

The funny thing is that I have yet to meet any Yankee fans who are actually pissed off about it. Every one I've talked to just sort of shrugs his shoulders and says, "What can you do?" None of them is happy about it, or thinks it's a good thing, but they're a whole lot more lackadaisical about it than I would have believed possible, considering that they tore down the ballpark where Ruth and Gehrig and Mantle played. I'm generally curious -- why don't Yankees fans care more about it?

I suppose the clinical answer is that more revenues, even marginally more revenues, equals more money equals more payroll equals a better chance of winning. But it's hard to see why somebody that dispassionate about the history of the ballpark would even care about something as irrational as sports to begin with.

Combination of bandwagon and generational issues.

That's the only thing I can put my finger on. I know without a shadow of a doubt my Grandfather probably rolled over in his grave.

All I know is that even as a Yankees-hater the history was heavily tangible in that building, even to the point of being oppressive. I can't imagine why any team would trade that aura for a Hard Rock Cafe.

I won't be in NY until Nov. Not seen the new place yet but planning a summer trip in 11. I've seen a dozen games in Yankee stadium. I think with Yorkers its just a "all good things must come to an end" attitude. I know I'm hoping the Dolan's ownership goes the way of Yankee stadium.

I've not been yet, but after seeing around 20-30 games at the old Stadium growing up, I was pretty disappointed that the organization would again do something so extravagant and over the top.

Maybe I'll change my tune once I finally get up there, but I doubt it.

You can ask players that were either Yankees or opposing players, and many will say the same thing. You could feel the place. Jeter always claims it was the "ghosts." Especially come playoff time.

At least Angelo on Mulberry is still the same. That joint has fed some of the Yankee greats for the last hundred years.

The new Yankee Stadium certainly does a good job of paying homage to the franchise's rich history. That said, there are a bunch of better ballparks out there.

It's very surreal to see where the old place was and now it's just empty space. As others have said the aura is not exactly the same but it's basically a museum honoring the Yankees.

Another cool thing is you can see the Empire State Building through the arch ways of the Great Hall and I've heard the Malibu Party Deck has some solid views but I didn't make over there.

When I was in NYC in late July I took my wife to Yankee Tavern before the game, since it's so old and they say Ruth used to stop by for a drink after games, but when we walked in I swear it was like a scene from a movie and I felt like the Jukebox stopped and everyone just stared at us.

We stayed just long enough to down a beer and got out of there.

I agree totally. And it's a "nice" venue but for all the history they trashed to build it, it's not worth it IMO.
