I know it's sick. Leinart didn't ever beat Florida either. :dunno:

I've always thought Peyton got robbed.

Last SEC winner was Danny Wuerffel in '96, before that Bo Jackson in '85.

It's really sad to say, but if there is a close option, the SEC is gonna get the short end of the stick in most anything subjective.

I think it's a popularity contest to players on the best teams, and biased to quarterback and running back positions; there are 22 guys on the field when they line up

The trophy supposedly goes to the best player. But the last time I checked 1 player does not win games so why does the w-l have so much in deciding who gets it. There are some really great players who do not have a supporting cast so they get no recognition.
And unless you have the ESPN analyst praising your every move you do not stand a chance. So it is definately a popularity contest.

one thing though guys. last years passing stats were WAYYY down from the year before. i honestly dont know why

in 2003-2004
lienart threw for 3556

same with white last year he threw for lilke 3200 yards when the year before he through for 3800 yards. there was a common crop between quartebacks.

last years heisman should have gone to braylon edwards.

and i stand by this no matter what even if i get a lot of arguements here.

charles woodson deserved the 1997 heisman trophy.

The Heisman has really become (in the last few years at least) a popularity contest. Reggie Bush will probably get it this year, not that he isn't a great player, but does he carry the team on his back? Same with Leinart... Now Vince Young, that is a different story.

I think the guys blocking on the punt return against Ohio State should get it, with out that, Payton would of won!

How much does having a NC appearance help or hurt your position in the heistman race??

We could bend stats to say a lot. Regardless, I think it is even more impressive considering that Peyton played in a strong defensive conference and leinart plays in the PAT-10; where they play little to no defense.

Woodson had 43 tackles, 7 ints, and broke up 5 passes. On offense he had 11 receptions on 69 offensive plays (that's certainly heistman worthy :shakehead: ). He also averaged 8.6 yards per punt return (oh my God that should get it right there :shakehead: ).

Petyon had better overall numbers than Danny Wuerffel the previous year (I don't have them in front of me, but I'll find them if I need to). He also had the most wins of any starting qb in SEC history (to that point) @ 39-6. Now everyone wants to bring up the Florida thing, but if memory serves me correctly Wureffel didn't exactly fair to well against Free Shoe University either, and they didn't hold that against him.

ESPN cost Peyton the heistman by asking voters to pick Woodson instead, a perfect example of what T2 was complianing about last week.

And I'm sure playing defense in the SEC is easy because nobody down there knows how to run an offense.

Any way you slice it, USC has played well enough to win 3 straight BCS games including 2 national titles.

I thought Rex Grossman was snubbed his yr as well...far better stats..his problem was that he was a Soph. and it was given to Crouch as more of a career award.

Milo, have you ever thought that maybe the SEC offense has a tough time because of the good defense in the SEC?? It's just like the PAC10 offense being good because of the lack of defense. :focus:

I overstate it just to spite those that blindly rip on Pac-10 football. I gots mad 'speck for SEC. And for the record, I think it's a combination of the SEC having the best defensive play in the country and inability on offense. That's my honest opinion.

:peace2: No harm, no foul.
