Manziel, a redshirt freshman for Texas A&M, has had a dynamic year, throwing for 3,419 yards with 24 touchdowns and eight interceptions. The dual threat signal caller also ran for 1,181 yards and 19 scores while leading the Aggies (10-2) to the AT&T Cotton Bowl where they will face the Oklahoma Sooners on Jan. 4. While Manziel may have the most eye-popping numbers of the trio, no freshman has ever won the award.
Kansas State's Klein has lead the Wildcats to an 11-1 season, a share of the Big 12 title and a trip to the Tostitos Fiesta Bowl. Like Manziel, Klein, a senior, proved to be a formidable dual threat quarterback, combining for 3,380 total yards and 37 touchdowns (22 on the ground).
Te'o, the only non-quarterback among the finalists, provided strong senior leadership for a Notre Dame club that ran the table and is playing for its first national championship in the BCS era. Te'o had seven interceptions and 101 tackles for the Irish (12-0), who will take on Alabama in the Discover BCS National Championship Game on Jan. 7 in Miami.
Quarterbacks Johnny Manziel and Collin Klein, and linebacker Manti Te'o have been named the three finalists for the 2012 Heisman Trophy.
