Hell's Kitchen

Its one of the very few reality type shows I will watch. He's great. He plays that character so well - I mean its him but its him waaaaaay over the top on Hells Kitchen. I've watched some of his Kitchen Nightmare BBC shows and he is much more laid back for the most part in those.

I like that show too. Gordon Ramsey is da man! I would love to eat at one of his restaurants.

Gordon: "Get Ouuut, get out (voice cracks) of my kitchen you cow". (2 seconds later) "Shut it down"!!!!

I walked by one of his recent Gastropub purchases when visiting my brother earlier this year. It's only a block or two down from his place. He's bought a few gastropubs over there and re-done them.

We didn't eat there, though. Reviews on this recent endevour haven't been exactly glowing. The main complaint seems to be he's spreading himself thin nowdays and things just aren't keeping up across the board. The gastropub's were receiving less than stellar reviews and complaints the concept has run it's course or just not up the prices they are charging.

That said, my bro has eaten at a couple of his restaurants with clients, etc. A 7-course dinner at his first and premier restaurant runs about $170 right now. Just 6 or so years ago when my brother visited it was about half the price (in pounds, about 2/3 in us dollars).

He said it's a hell of a meal, but he's normally not dinning at $200+/head places on his own wallet.

From watching him for years now, Gordon appears to be a pretty damn good guy. He's straight, to the point, and loves what he's done with his life since his accident and soccer days. the F-Word seems to show his more friendly, relaxed side the best.

I looked at the menu at Craftsteak in Vegas last time I was out there. (Tom Colicchio's restuarant from Top Chef.) Granted, prices are a bit inflated at the MGM Grand, but I'd love to try the Japanese Wagyu beef 8oz. Filet for $240. And seriously, that's for the steak. It's a la carte like most steakhouses.

Gordon is an interesting guy to watch. I've become a fan of his Kitchen Nightmare series. And everything he adds to those restaurants make sense. Seems like a good businessman.

But $240 meat. Ludicrous. There's no food I can put in my mouth that would justify spending that much. Nothing tastes $240 good.

That's because Tom Colicchio is the man. And while I enjoy Hell's Kitchen, It seems amateur in comparison to Top Chef, which is by far my favorite reality show.

I agree that the talent on Hell's Kitchen and the way it's played is a bit more amateurish. I wouldn't say that about Gordon and Tom. Both seem like pretty good guys and each has a solid reputation.

I don't know much about this new show called the Chopping Block, but apperantly the chef on there is a big deal. My wife told me Anthony Bourdain mentions him in his books as being a god among chefs and a bit intimidated around him. Hope the show is good.

Any one catch it tonight?

I find chopping block to be sort of like Hell's Kitchen, except boring as hell.

The last 2 have grown on me. When Danny isn't running his mouth like an idiot (ie. the first half of the season) he's a pretty good guy it seems.

Danny is the lesser of two evils, the other one who i can't even remember her name because she has the personality of a piece of driftwood. I understand that shouldnt be a qualification of a great cook, but its a tv show for God sakes.

A new season already? What the heck?? Dang it - between Big Brother 11, Wipeout, HK, and The Next Food Network Star I'm going to be spread a bit thin.

We always watch the show but I was wanting to see a new season of Kitchen Nightmares.

Wow. That seems awfully quick.

Does Gordon ever cook any more? He's been getting hit pretty hard the last couple of years by press in London that he's spread himself too thin with all his restaurants and extra obligations. Don't get me wrong, I'm happily awaiting the new season of the show.

The guy in the preview that just walks off does bring my excitement level down just a bit. Obviously a staged contestant that never should have been on the show to begin with.

If any network could ruin a great chef it would be FOX. I agree though, all of the vested interests he has, it has to wear on the creativity in the kitchen. What some people dont know is he has a British version of Kitchen Nightmares and a show on the BBC called The F Word so i dont see how he even sleeps at night....

I believe Gordon is over 20 restaurants/pubs under his umbrella now. He's got crap in the US on each coasts, UK, Dubai, etc. Couple years ago he started buying older gastro-pubs in London and redo'ing them into nicer joints. Tons of stuff going on for him. No idea when the man sleeps.

The British version of KM seemed much better to me. I had been watching it before the US version started. Of course, FOX makes it American by giving places completely new kitchens and so forth. In the UK version, he's much more changing the staff's mindset, the menu, and way of doing things. Here he just drops in, gives them all new stuff, and that's about it for the US version.

F Word is a good show. It has evolved well into an entertaining show.

BBC America is thankfully showing more timely UK shows. Apprentice UK is great but BBC America is a season or two behind. Still, good to see it. Sir Alan rocks.

(note: My brother lives in London and has for nearly 10 years now. I've seen a lot of their TV during my visits. Saw Deal/No Deal a few years before it here and loved it first time I saw it.)

Did anyone else watch the season premiere last night?

The characters on this season should make it more entertaining. They even brought back big Robert (don't call me Bobby) from last season. He had to leave for a medical condition so Gordon brought him back.

I don't want to spoil anything if someone didn't see it but the ex-marine on there is psycho.

I watched the first episode last night and think this year will at least be pretty wild. I think anymore though that Fox must just go after people that are morons for this show to make it for better TV. Just from what I saw last night I've already narrowed it down to 4 people that I can even remotely see winning this thing........

1. My odds on favorite right now is Kevin. The only thing against him is the fact that its the year for a female to win it. Its always went back and forth and since Danny won the past season if form holds true it will be a female this season. I think Kevin will be a strong presence throughout and prove that he is one of the best this season.

2. Sabrina is my second favorite. Of course since its supposed to be a female this year she may get the nod. Regardless I would be very surprised if she doesn't go far this season.

3. Ariel. Just a hunch here but I think she will also prove to be a strong female competitor in the game.

4. Dave. It took me about an hour and a half of the two hours for him to convince me he could go far. I think he may be able to handle the pressure and he has the culinary background to go far.

My others in order as I see them now.........

5. Robert
6. Suzanne
7. Van
8. Tek
9. Jim
10. Tony
11. Tennille
12. Lovely
13. Amanda
14. Joseph
