I am fairly up to speed on recruiting, meaning im on this site twenty four seven, but I keep hearing the term "sign and place". Can someone explain to me what this means and how it works? I realize its something to do with players who dont qualify, but I just wanted to know how exactly it worked. Thanks, and sorry if this is just a no brainer.

It means we sign then and they don't qualify academically so we place them in a JUCO. two years later we re-recruit.

Basically "Sign and Place" means that a signee signs an LOI and counts towards your class, but obviously does not enroll and either goes to JUCO or PREP. With the way the 28 rule is in effect, you will not see a lot of that anymore because of the numbers game. The SEC wants better graduation rates, and this is their way of dealing with it and making it hard on JUCO guys getting in. The PREP guys typically have an easier time because they don't have to have the extra classes to enroll. They just get the test scores and GPA better.

Sign and Place means the players dont' qualify academically to be admitted to the university......but we Sign them anyway, and Place them either in a Prep School, or Junior College......sometimes, it's possible that they sit out a year, but I'm not sure how that fits in........

So, you can sign and place up to 3 players/ year.......so we are lookin' for 3 dummies to go with the 25 that we can sign.......

why sign a player then they go juco then they dont stick with us ,we signed 22 last year a few of them didnt have the grades so we should be able to sign extra but we cant why is that rule there, seecially after arkansas signed 30 last year

Generally, the thinking when you sign and place everyone gets a little something out of it. The player gets to sign with a major school, the JUCO coach gets a really talented kid, and in return the JUCO coach is supposed to 'protect' the kid from other recruiters. If another school starts sniffing around your sign and place player he'd let the school that sent him to them know.

I believe it was Ole Miss that signed 37 last year, so obviously they knew a lot of those kids weren't going to qualify. I don't really get the rule on only signing 28 except the SEC saw it as an 'image' problem. I think the SEC only wants people signing with the school if there's at least a chance they'll qualify.

The 28 rule has everything to do with grades and graduation rates. That's what the SEC is really concerned about and why they created the rule.
