Being stuck in the world of VHS for the last few years, the youngster has inspired me to make a purchase. I want to buy a new DVD recorder but have no idea what to look for. I probably don't want to spend more than 1000 bones. Anybody got some experienced recommendations?

I would read the revews of them at www.cnet.com and then do a price check at www.shopping.com. Good Luck

Been thinking of getting a new one as well bro. I like those in the $5-600 range that records it right to the DVD.

I like the hard drive deals. More space for more video. And since I'm more up on the whole file transfer process, it goes better for me.

You DON'T want one of these without a hard drive. Having to record straight to DVD is awful. It's nice to be able to edit commercials out and then record at the max quality based on the actual content that you want.

I have owned both and I would not even consider purchasing one without a hard drive. Right now I have a hard drive based Pioneer model (I believe it is) that I found at Walmart for about $350 and it works great. I checked online first and it had great reviews. I have been very pleased.
