DENVER Colorado Rockies first baseman Todd Helton's stomach discomfort was diagnosed as acute terminal ileitis by the team's internist, Dr. Allen Schreiber.

Schreiber has prescribed more rest for the five-time All-Star before he can begin exercising.

No date has been determined for his return to the Rockies.

Acute terminal ileitis is inflammation that specifically localizes to the end of the end of the intestine.

The 32 year-old Helton was released from Rose Medical Center in Denver on Monday after being admitted on Friday of last week because of the stomach discomfort.

Helton, who was placed on the 15-day disabled list Saturday, has posted a .347 batting average with a league-leading nine doubles and nine RBI in 15 games for the Rockies thus far this season. He holds the team records in nearly every offensive category, including batting average, hits, home runs and RBI.
