Hendon Hooker takes Lead in Heisman Odds

Bo Nix at #5 tells you all you need to know about the difference in SEC defense and Pac 12 defense.

SEC defenses are not what they used to be, that's for sure. The fact that we held Kentucky to 6 was encouraging--but that was a total anomaly in today's very offensive-oriented college game. Just look at the scores all over the country every week. I'd love to see numbers comparing the total number of punts this year in Div. 1 vs. total punts from, say, 20 years ago. The difference would be huge. And the spread offenses and passing have changed the game, defenses generally just aren't very good anymore. Ole Miss RAN for 390 yards against Texas A&M.

Nix was abysmal against SEC defenses while he was at Auburn. In his one game against an SEC defense this year, he was abysmal against Georgia. Now that he's gone to playing strictly Pac 12 defenses, he's a Heisman candidate.

There's a difference.

I don't understand how Bo Nix is ahead of Bryce Young. If you had your pick at QB, no one in their right mind is picking Bo Nix over Bryce Young. But this goes to show how much the Heisman race can be mindlessly dictated by stats.

It will come down to how HH does against Georgia versus how Stroud does against Michigan. We then have HH in the SECC game against Bama or LSU and Stroud against Illinios. Those 4 games will determine the Heisman.

How crazy would it be if Hook pulls it off. GBO

Majors, Shuler, Manning.

Tbf, Shuler should've finished 2nd (as he did). Charlie Ward put up one of the best seasons in history that year and Shuler, as good as he was, wasn't close to Ward's level.

Majors definitely has a very strong case and Manning absolutely should've won it.

Just remember that the more people on the list from a specific area ... divides the votes!
I would give Stroud the #1 spot - not because I think he deserves it, but because he will likely garner a larger sectional vote.
If Michigan beats OSU ... that gives HH a better shot.
Win or lose in Athens, HH has to put up 'normal' offensive numbers. Hooker is having a Burrows type of run ... looking forward to TN offense continuing to thrive.
Sunday Headline: Tennessee Waltz' to Win. [Looks like a rematch is going to happen in SECCG. Alabama is already foaming at the mouth!]

Oh how I hope the transplant leprechaun takes the tide down.
That would be glorious

If we beat UGA and Hooker and go undefeated into the SECCG, Hooker will have it locked up. The stats are pretty similar but 2 wins over 2 top 5 opponents doesn't happen often during the regular season.

Also, we're actually a media darling at the moment. Most exciting offense in the country. Underdog story all around.
