I’ve been down on the guy for a few weeks, especially after the videos of his play the last few weeks emerged and the whispers about NIL being a component. Called him lazy and soft, even went as far as to say he should take his NIL and go back to Louisiana.

Don’t know know what spurred it - whether it be the talk getting back to him, getting more in shape, or playing Alabama - the guy gave his all yesterday and helped a resurgent OL against a very good Bama defensive front. Wasn’t perfect, has room for improvement, but the leap he took was very noticeable and apparent. He, among many others, helped win that game in a true team effort.

So I’ll take my portion of crow, lightly salted please. Hats off to the guy and glad he’s a Volunteer.

I’ll share. The line as a whole looked like a different unit. Still room to improve but opened holes and gave time for the most part. After that last showing I’d say they were heavily challenged by the team/staff and they stepped up.

I'll take a leg of crow on Heard but I'm not coming off my criticism of Elarbee.

It should not take until game 7 to have an SEC caliber O Line. That is not going to work in lots of seasons and it's year 4 for him. Get guys in the room, develop them, and have some depth because injuries happen.

He looked much improved.

The videos breaking down his previous play vs Florida etc really exploited his poor play. I think everyone had a right to wonder what the deal was. Glad he’s moving in the right direction. He might be a beast for us. You can see why the staff was excited about him

Maybe his ankle isn't as sore.

There is a lot of us on here, if being honest, need to join you with that meal.
It doesn’t make the things said before yesterday any less true. Glad he stepped up and I hope it’s a sign of things to come but it’s not like the concerns about him were unfounded and unfair.

Do you guys ever take a second and think maybe he has been injured?
They don't really care. Might give some lip service to the contrary, but their swiftness in going negaVol on players tells you all you need to know. Rabid rats behave the same way. They attack and even eat their own. NegaVols? Hmm, perhaps they should be called cannivols.

Don't recall where I read it, but apparently, he had an injured ankle or foot. Now, in fairness, I had misgivings about his play as well. IIRC, I do believe I mentioned it MIGHT be a good idea to try some of the new/unused OL, and hope for the best. But even then I also mentioned he might have an injury hampering him. Others suggested he was out of shape. But I never cannivol-ed him like some here.

I said it last week. The ankle injury hampered him, particularly because it caused him to miss much of camp and he just wasn’t in playing shape. He’s slowly gotten back into shape over the last few weeks. You think he came alive in the second half yesterday? He should be close to 100% for Kentucky coming out of the bye. Offensive line may hit its stride at the perfect time.

Which is why I made the thread. If for nothing else to own up to my own cannibalism of a VOL that probably didn’t deserve what I was throwing at him. Did he hear it or read it? Probably not. But I’m sure he was hearing suggestions through the grapevine. Just how the world works.

The guy stepped up when we needed it the most and I was wrong - dead wrong - about my assessment of him. The guy has the talent to be a force. A good reminder to myself to keep from making snap judgements without giving it the time to be proven out by a sample larger than what we had.

Yep. Id rather get hot in the back half of the season than fizzle out.

This falls most likely under the subject heading of injury. I was aware a number of years ago of a Volunteer point guard who had a drastic failure of performance from his previous year due to fighting testicular cancer. What we fans believe and criticize often is not the truth. After that episode, I quit criticizing individuals. OP, not criticizing you either, just an observation.
