1. CBJ is a major upgrade, in my opinion, of a Gameday coach. I think if Dooley would have recruited 6 5* kids every year he'd find a way to play down to his competition and lose. Too many men on the field....etc.

2. Many of the kids we signed today come from winning high school programs. I heard multiple things like, "he's only lost one game in his whole career" and "his led his team to three straight state championships". I heard it all day today. There's a lot to be said for knowing how to win and more importantly, expecting to win.

Agreed. CBJ would have won 3 more games last year and 2-3 more games the year before on coaching talent alone!

Many including myself have said, for whatever reason. Butch did not win this battle, excuses can be made, but in the end he should have locked more talent up. I do not think it was not for lack of trying, it was not lack of resources...Lawrd knows that Ole Miss does not hold a candle to what TN has and many other schools they finished ahead of them. The truth is for some reason it did not go as well as he would have liked. So bottom line is he is going to have to get some wins this next year, going to be brutal with 3 tough games on the road. If he pulls off 7 wins it does not look good really, but he has to do it at minimum. He needs a win in a bowl game and hope for enough to break in the top half of the SEC next year. This is going to take a while. I have no doubt he will put out his full effort, I did doubt Dooley there, even though Dooley was a terrible coach he did have more success in recruiting so far and again this is just one battle.

Butch is a football coach that i think will be able to coach kids up. Dooley on the other hand was a micro-manager that let the lawyer side take over when coaching!

Agreed. The proof is in the pudding and that will be on the field play. Huge improvements will be made in that department this year. Fans will see it, the current players will benefit from it, and recruits will take notice. Bigger and better things are ahead.

Dooley definitely wasn't cut out to be a D-1 coach and he got the opportunity to prove it at UT and receive a nice paycheck. I sure am pulling for Butch to turn things around. :superman:

Ok, next year UT isn't going to be good, no matter what Butch would've brought in. Some of you need to realize Butch worked his butt off this last month and a half. Maybe it was a half idk, but the recruiting staff can only do so much. These are college kids that make the decision, a very hard decision. Am I disappointed we didn't get some of the ones we hoped to get? Yes. But how about be thankful for the ones that signed and want to be VFL's and get behind Butch Jones and the players! Screw the players that don't wanna be here. This class is still in the top 25 and barring what little time Jones had, this is a good recruiting class. Stop being so negative and look forward to the future of Tennessee football!

I want to agree with you, but quite frankly Dooley so far had shown some recruiting ability great than Butch, but I would not say he was great. Dooley was a horrible coach. I believe Butch has to get some wins and he will be back in the top ten in recruiting and will put Dooley to shame in coaching and be better than Dooley in recruiting because of this...saying all that Butch lost some battles today I think he should have won, I think he tried with everything in his being, but I think he has some polishing to do in that area.

Well Butch had only been here a little over a month and as bad UT has been, still got a top 20 class. I still say that's good. But none of us know what next season will bring. There's always some sort of surprise.

There are a hundred threads on the recruiting topic. This thread was to ask you guys these questions:

1. How much difference will improved on the field coaching make?
2. Does bringing in kids who are used to winning translate into building a better program?

You may be right, but how did Dooley have better classes, could be a fluke deal. Butch has got to get some wins next year. He needs to a pull a shocker in Florida or something.

I think he means losing in Dooley fashion...

Only Dooley loses like Dooley.

We have a coach that is use to winning.

The sec is a different animal tho.

In Butch we trust.

Kinda like this. And with the low recruiting finish "in the SEC", I mean thats like saying we finished near the bottom of the top 5 or 10 percent. Still a top 25 class...
